CIFFI Collins Lake Derby Provides Thrills, Laughs And Fine Food For All!

On April 19 more than 100 anglers converged on Collins Lake for the Annual CIFFI Collins Lake Derby. Funds generated by this and other CIFFI derbies goes to fund fishery improvements and educational programs all around the state.
Since 1992, the CIFFI (Project Kokanee) has partnered with the DFG to fund the continued planting of kokanee salmon, installation of rearing pens and support the fishing available in selected California lakes.
Saturdays event was a big success featuring great food provided by Lampes Catering and a raffle that featured more than $3,000 in prizes.
Fishing during the event was tough overall, but there were plenty of rainbows caught including some trophies. The events winners were as follows:
Adult Trout Winners:
- Don Nelson - $500 6.85 pounds
- Vanessa Klingenbers - $300 6.05 pounds
- Jesse Joseph - $200 5.23 pounds
- Wesley Carpenter - $175 4.23 pounds
- Jim Lawrence - $150 3.98 pounds
- Steve Huish - $125 - 3.95 pounds
- Randy Bergquist - $100 3.63 pounds
- Christina Robinson - $75 3.61 pounds
- Mark Strobeck - $50 3.52 pounds
- Richard North - $25 3.41 pounds
Youth Trout Winners:
- Jake Pontes 5.1 pounds
- Richard Plise, Jr. 3.14 pounds
- Everett Frank 2.74 pounds
- Joel Haenggi 2.67 pounds
