    Sherman Island

The weather forecast looked good yesterday. So I decided to launch at the County ramp and try my luck with some topwater, and maybe troll a little. Water clarity was descent. Picked up a few...

    Garcia Bend

It took 4 trips, but I was finally able to get some blood in the boat. Took a mid day trip(11-3) with dad trolling above Garcia Bend yesterday. We were within site of the ramp, getting ready to...

    Re: Sacramento Area 9/25/2019

I spent Sunday afternoon trolling the Garcia Bend area for nada. Saw one caught. The cleaning station was very clean when I returned. My $.02.

Re: French Meadows/ Hell Hole Access?

Stopped Hell Hole again last weekend. The water level has increased at least 40 feet since Memorial Day weekend. It’s only a few feet from the spillway. Hopefully they don’t draw it down too fast....

Re: July 2019 are you ready?

I've made several ammo purchases this year and have gotten a slightly different interpretation of the new law from each sales clerk.

The general consensus seems to be that there will be a $1 fee...

    Tomales Bay Water Conditions

    I second everything mentioned already.
I crab & halibut fish there often in a 12' aluminum, just watch the forecast. Depending on the tide, there are some shallow areas that can sneak up on you. ...

    Re: Yosemite

It was 25+ years ago. Not sure what the regs are now, but as a kid we use to have good luck with a fly and bobber on the creeks that feed into the Merced.

Re: Knott trailer hub - sealed bearings

I thought about just replacing them periodically to minimize the risk of failure. I fish alone most of the time and don't want to worry about abandoning my trailer on some remote mountain road due...

Re: French Meadows/ Hell Hole Access?

I heard the road was clear before this current weather system. Mosquito Ridge Rd. has a short section that tops out at about 6,000 feet, so there's bound to be some fresh snow. I'm going to attempt...

Knott trailer hub - sealed bearings

Couldn't find any posts regarding these hubs. I bought a new trailer two years ago that uses Knott hub sealed bearings. I should've researched more before making the purchase. I don't like the...

    Re: New Melonies on fire.

New Melones has a self inspection form that you must display on your dash. There's an iron ranger at the entrance that accepts credit cards. I never pay much attention, but I think its only $10 to...

    Re: Knights Landing evening dip

Haven't tried circle hooks bait fishing for Stripers. I use 7/0 to 8/0 J-hooks which cuts down on the shakers and gut hooked fish. I have experimented with good results using small circle hooks...

    Re: Knights Landing evening dip

I too hit the river Saturday evening, but I launched out of Verona. I prefer evenings on the weekend, you avoid most of the crowd.

I was also dealing with the annoying debris on my line. There’s...

    Re: sunday 3-31 verona

I fished Verona on Saturday. There was a dock at the ramp. The upper grass lot is flooded, and I didn’t see a pump working to drain it either.

Managed one 17” Striper on sardines. The water is...

I launched out of Browns Ravine last Sunday(3/3). Trolled my way to the South Fork, but turned around when the water clarity dropped and I encountered surface debris. After four hours of trolling,...

Try Union Valley Reservoir. It's the same exit off of Highway 50 as Ice House. The West Point launch area is the only entrance I know that is open throughout the winter. SMUD plows the road to the...

I launched my little 12 footer there about a week ago. There is heavy build up in front of the ramp. I watched a large aluminum get his outdrive stuck in the mud, and then drift into the marina...
  23. Re: YES! Another “Using my anchor” question

I fish from a 12' aluminum and also use a Danforth style anchor with a small section of chain. Aside from a rocky bottom, it's my go to anchor. For the float, you could buy a mooring buoy or...

    Re: Older Boat Parts?

There used to be a place in Rancho Cordova called, Shipwreck Marine. Not sure if they're still around. It was essentially a boat junk yard.
