Re: Hooking up FF to battery?

I bet that was startling Seon! I personally don’t switch any switched appliance. However I do master switch each battery bank. This helps for charging on/off the water and silencing those vocal...

Re: Hooking up FF to battery?

The problem with this method is you are using the main wiring harness provided by the manufacturer. Whatever electrical BUZZ associated with that harness will also transfer from the factory fuse...

Re: Hooking up FF to battery?

Run black and red #10 marine wire from the battery to a Blue Sea Systems fuse block at the console. Connect your ff to the fuse block. This will give you ‘poor mans’ clean power for the electronics....

    Re: Lowrance Carbon - questions.

You will not have imaging (StructureScan) without traditional (2D) sonar. So I assume the bundle with StructureScan transducer also has the HST-WSBL 2D transducer.
What type of hull do you have, or...
  6. Re: New Lowrance Elite 9 Ti2 Installed with Two Transducers...Why?

Any of the entry level aluminum boats, and some same level fiberglass boats really require the Stern Saver for proper and secure installation.
The better built aluminum boats have thicker aluminum...
  7. Re: New Lowrance Elite 9 Ti2 Installed with Two Transducers...Why?

Yes that is also a possibility. My ref list is not up to date yet.

  8. Re: New Lowrance Elite 9 Ti2 Installed with Two Transducers...Why?

What appears to have been done is the dealer installed a Ti2 unit with the transducer kit. The transducer kit consists of an HST-WSBL 2D transducer, the StructureScan HD transducer, brackets and a...
  9. Re: Question about VHF radio and medical emergency

An exceptional feature and should be on every boat in navigable waters. But let's not forget the VHF/DSC is 'line of sight' transmission, and during the best of conditions that limits us to about 25...
  10. Re: Question about VHF radio and medical emergency

Interesting thoughts on a very sobering subject. I would say the MOST counties do not have VHF aboard their boats. I know that Fresno not Madera Sheriff patrol boats have only the radios to contact...
  11. Re: Lowrance Hook2 5 Connector Problem after using Dielectric Grease

Sorry you had this experience. The info you were getting (from all over the internet) pertained to the 'twist-lock/threaded' style of connectors, and not the push-in uni style plug.

    You can fix...
  12. Re: Lowrance or Hummingbird ? Which one should I buy?

While this approach is handy, it's a far cry from a second unit and the ability to see the screen in direct sunlight.
This works great if you are under a Bimini or the likes.

  13. Re: Lowrance or Hummingbird ? Which one should I buy?

There are definite and specific advantages to keeping all electronics on one boat to a single manufacturer.
One advantage being the ability to share/network data from one source to another, so if...

Re: Help with my lowrance HDS 7

Send me an email with pics of your setup including the transducer mounting. Also include a full side view pic. Also detail what it does and does not do. Screen shots always help.

Re: Time to Replace HDS 7 Gen 1; What Next?

    Just in case you do not understand what you are buying;
Elite-ti units are second generation HDS, first with touch screen, and the removal of some HDS features.
HDS Gen3 is just that, 3rd...

Re: Time to Replace HDS 7 Gen 1; What Next?

Actually it is 'what does the HDS do that the HOOK2 doesn't'. The 3 main differences are the touch screen and the ability to network to other HDS units and the capability to accept a host of...

Re: Time to Replace HDS 7 Gen 1; What Next?

Have you got 2 networked sonar units? If not, you may like to wait for the new HOOK2 units that will ship in mid-December. Completely 'automatic' sonar...NO adjustments....just go fishing! If you...

    Re: Hook 5 issue

Those are things that may be part of the problem. You'd need to tell me or show me. Maybe some pics of the transom, the xdcr, and under the boat. It is critical to understand where your boat rides at...

    Re: Hook 5 issue

This is a problem with all brands that can be rectified. You first need to know your boats 'attitude' at WOT or On-pad. Next you need the same info for trolling/idle speed. Now you need to inspect...

I see the thermocline just fine with my HDS, (I think Wes meant HDI), but remember that a thermocline is NOT always present if certain conditions do not exist.
