Re: scotty 1106 or Cannon Mag 10 STX

You only need the 1106 if you are running four down riggers. Two fixed booms and two extended booms.

Re: Late night fishing at eagle lake

Yep, no problem. The evening is good fishing when most boat traffic has headed in already.

    Re: Your trolling set-up?

I use a 8 lb main line with 15 feet of 4 lb leader to my lure. I troll them "naked", no flasher or dodgers. Seems to work for me.

Re: scotty 1106 or Cannon Mag 10 STX

I outfitted my new boat with my old Scotty 1106 from the old boat. I like the lower profile as you can reach over it easier if you need to. The Cannon has the rod holder mounted at the rear of the...

Poll: Re: Whats your favorite trolling speed?

It really depends on the hardware that you are pulling that dictates the best speed you should be trolling at. I generally pull speedy shiners and needle fish naked and troll around 2.5 - 2.8mph on...

    Re: IPad/Tablet Mount

I'm running a 9" on the stern and it's big enough for my use while trolling.

Not sure where you fish, but I've fished in the bay and the stern unit catches spray from the boat, so I don't think...

    Re: IPad/Tablet Mount

I run another graph in the back. I'm running three elite ti2, two at the helm and one at the stern. One for GPS and one for graphing at the helm and the third at the stern for graphing. The Ti2...

Re: New to SF Ocean Fishing

Sorry you got seasick. Get some transdermal, put it on the night before. Half a patch will suffice for a two day trip.

30 miles out is a long run. How long does that take to get out there?

Re: New to SF Ocean Fishing

The bite will be tougher. Best to get out early before the water starts to move a lot and the get's muddy from the tide movement. Troll against the tide so the bait will move slower across the...

Re: New to SF Ocean Fishing

Saturday morning is a big tide. It's going from a 6.8 to a minus tide. Lot of water moving. You might be moving 3 mph if you are going out with the tide.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Re: New to SF Ocean Fishing

Yes the more you troll the heavier the ball you will need. I use 10 ounce for a small dodger and bait. Add a hoochie and you might have to go to 12 ounces. Just make sure your hitting the bottom. ...

Re: New to SF Ocean Fishing

What do you mean by big boat traffic? Oil tankers, cargo ships, tub boats, and ferry boats?

No big boats like that. Just a lot of fishing boats and party boats when the bite is on. Most...

Re: New to SF Ocean Fishing

I really don't care for the launch ramp at Berkeley. Richmond is a much better ramp.

Halibut bite has been good along the Alameda Rock Wall, San Bruno Shoal, and along SFO. If you launch out...

Re: Looking for SF Bay Boat Fishing Advice

If you want to set anchor and fish I would launch out of San Rafael and fish around Buoy 5. Right on the edge of the channel. Fish the flats before the drop off into the channel on a incoming tide....

Yes I was thinking of using golf club sleeves for the rod tips. I was just wondering how everyone else were transporting their rods since this boat is new to me. My previous boat had rod locker...

Re: Rod Storage while trailering, where?

I wish the sides of my gunnel were open like that but they are not. There is a shelf on mine and then a place for two rods, but the opening is only 4 feet long and it's difficult to get them in.
