Since you will be in the Yosemite area I would recommend trying the streams on the 'East Side' -- the eastern side of the Sierras. The East Walker River, The West Walker, East Carson and Hot Creek are all close to Yosemite. In my opinion, they are superior for both numbers and quality of trout (as opposed to fishing in the parks). With all the snow we are having this year, they should be fishing very well in September. Check them out on Google.
The scenery is fantastic and you will appreciate the 'frontier' feel of area (check out 'Bodie' for example).
The list of flies posted earlier is excellent-- but don't forget a few larger streamers (bead head wooly buggers, bunny leeches, bead head damsels etc,).
Good Luck!Last edited by steelydude; 05-10-2017 at 11:56 AM.

This is a great guide and I don't even fly fish. You click on the region you want then on the actual river/lake and get his advice for flies and how to fish it. Great resource.

P.S. I left you a long post on another post of yours about your fishing license.

I love the United States for many reasons, but mainly for two things:
Beautiful scenery...
And the relationship with the Americans who is still awesome and I have once again the proof !
Salmonid, I will be very honored to come fish with you :) I never fished salmon, because ... we don't have in France ! It's a dream that you propose to me !
Thank you Macfish for the link, Last june, i was in Nevada/Utah/Arizona National parks, I drank almost a gallon of water per 2 hours !!!Last edited by Romain; 02-05-2017 at 04:26 AM.

I like to fish hoppers in September. You can't go wrong with the hopper, copper, dropper set up. But be prepared to dredge some nymphs and cast some
dry flies.
Nymphs / size
Copper John / 14- 18
Prince Nymph/14-18
PT Flashback / 16-20
Harts Dark Lord / 14-20
Caddis / 16-20
October Caddis/ 10-14
Midges / 18-24
Dries / size
Hoppers / 6-12
Elk Hair Caddis / 12-18
Adams / 14-20
Griffins Gnat / 20-22
That should get you started and don't be afraid to add rubber legs to the Hoppers, Copper Johns, and the Prince Nymphs.

Hi !
I would like fly fishing during my next travel in California in september 2017.
I'll be between Yosemite and Sequoia NP.
I don't know witch flies use in this country at this season (type of fly, size, color) .
In France, i take with me the material to make flies with the insects i see.
But in this case, I have to travel light ! I need make my flies before the travel.
This will be my 5th travel at the USA but the first time what i take my rod with me.
Thank you for your help and sorry for my English (i'm from France)
Romain
