Go to Bear river reservoir get in about 20 to 40 feet water on the east side of the lake which would be north of the dam. Thread a whole night crawler with the hook out the end barely. Use about 3' leader and a bottom bouncer you will catch lot of Macs that way. When the sun is high fish little deeper. Macs love to hug the bottoms of the lakes/reservoirs. I'm not big on Macs no secret I beat that horse to death but it's fishing and they can be fun. I will say though even though I consider them in trash category like a carp ( sorry hurt feelings) I will say when Macks get in the 20 30 40 pounds they become beautiful fish. The Macs in Oregon and Montana get these yellow fins with this grey whitish sides. Those huge macs lose that flat head they have when their juvenile. Beautiful. I have never target them but have caught a lot just simply trophy Brown fishing. Small and big macs

I went back on some of the archives for cooking Macs, majority smoke them.

Thanks everyone, I'm looking at dates to see when I can get up there and give it a go. Sounds like I shouldn't wait too long.

Fall can be wonky with the spawn, but don't let it slow you down. Tahoe has more macks than any lake in .CA. Lots of other options with good chances. Can't go wrong with Stampede, Union, Dinner or Hell Hole. Take your pick and get after it.
