Re: Just a couple of guys in float tubes...

I imagine a fish that big must have pulled the float tube around a bit!

Good fishery, can be feast or famine out there. Yes powerboats are allowed.

Definitely is the time of year for Bass at Sonoma. The Trout disappear this time of year.

Just a couple of guys in float tubes...

My buddy and I used to fish a lot with the Sonoma County Belly Boat Bass Club and when we found out they were having their July tournament at Lake Sonoma we got pumped and showed up to fish in it. The 6 hour summer rule was in effect and they scheduled it for an evening/night event, 6pm-midnight and it was a team tournament (draw). There were 18 anglers total and 15 of them were in those kickboat style boats, 1 girl in a kayak, and the two of us with float tubes. As luck would have it us 2 float tubers got teamed up. Turns out the fish weren't very far from the launch ramp! Almost everybody just rowed right on out to the main lake and we just went to fishing the rocks and shallow cover near the boat launch. We crushed an 18 pound limit and had the big fish of the event, a 7.51 lb toad! The big one hit at 10:30pm under the cover of darkness. Second place had a 13 lb limit. Dailey already went out and bought a kickboat so he can fish the august tournament at the delta, I'm going to fish in that one too but just stick with the ol' float tube.
