    MKE is pretty much right. Macks were stocked in Gilmore and Stony Ridge way back in the later 1800s up to the 1970s.

    Macs are all over Desolation Wilderness even above the tree line. Thanks to the stocking back in the day.

    why is a Mac in the wilderness anyway, waterfowl transporting fresh eggs to another lake.
    Ill bet is was a large Brook trout, same white edge on fins ???

    Nice job. It's awesome the places you can access with a float tube that the regular boating crowds cannot.

    Wilderness Mack

    I took my new ultra light float tube to the big lake behind Mt. Tallac.

    This over 20" Mack hit a silver 3/8 oz. Kasty with prism tape really deep:



    It had a good sized bait fish in its stomach:



    Even though it had been eating fish, it had nice pink meat:
