    West Delta April Report

I started 2018 off slow on account of being so busy with other things, but this month I have finally been able to get out a few times and here's a summary of what we have seen so far in this spring run:

Fished the West Delta (Monty, Big Cut areas) a few weekends ago after some rain. Visibility was zero so we tossed out cut bait and got action from quite a few good sized schoolies up to 24". Took a few home for my mother in law and a friend and when I scaled/gutted them I found what appeared to be sardine heads in their bellies. Not sure exactly the fish, but when I was tossing out sardine cut bait, I only use the tails. The water was 57F pretty much everywhere we went. We even caught a pretty big catfish we thought was going to be a nice striper. The action came at 17 feet depth.

Fished for sturgeon and striper in the same area on the 7th I believe it was. We marked tons of fish, but no takers that day but a few shaker stripers.

Fished the West Delta between Sherman and Honker last Saturday. The water was 59-60.5F. visibility was 12-18". Only managed three fish, but I did get some nice ones. all of them caught on large silver rat-L-traps.

The run is on. It's still early, but if you stay versatile for any water condition you may see out there it is productive.
