    Loomis MBR 843C

If you got any of those laced with either 30# braid or 15# mono or flouro your set.

I like a stumpy 18" section of heavy 25-30# mono tied on the business end. Keeps the jig from falling over on itself, strong abrasion resistance bangin and jiggin around, and is useful when it comes time to getting hooks out.

In between wench creek and yellow jacket. Around west point is another option.

I live across the street from Donner and fish it a few times a week jigging for macs.

    Optimal rod selection

7ft medium heavy fast action rod
    30lb braid
    10-12lb mono leader 10ft

I normally use 2 oz P-line lazer minnows in chartruese. If the wind isn't blowing you can get away with smaller jigs.

Keep in mind the wind normally comes up pretty good after 10:30am and can make it had to jig vertically

    Good luck!

Water pipe? Would you mind elaborating a bit? I've spent quite sometime fishing that hole and have never heard of this pipe.

Re: Rod and reel suggestions for macks

If using 2oz jigs or bigger, a 7' med-heavy fast action rod with a low profile baitcaster (6.3 or faster) spooled with 30lb braid with a 5-10' 15lb leader to me is about the perfect setup for jigging. If using lighter lures, a med power fast action will work with same reel I described. Most likely you already have both these setups.

Unless you already know where the fish are on the drop offs, you probably will be trolling around to find them. A med-heavy cranking rod paired to a 300 size baitcaster with 15lb mono will work well off a downrigger.
