    X2 - Scotty's customer service is terrific!

Re: scotty 1106 or Cannon Mag 10 STX

I've owned both and each has it's advantages and disadvantages.

    I currently have Scotty.
    • It's belt driven so I carry an extra belt just in case.
    • Uses gravity to lower the weight with a "clutch brake" to stop
    • Has "jog" button for raising weight incrementally
    • Has a "knob" button for raising the weight continuously
    • Has a stopper bead for auto stop but at times slips
    • The rod holder is attached on the boom which is outboard of the gunwale and at time makes it somewhat difficult to get the rod out of the holder

    Cannon
    • Is direct drive no belt
    • Toggle switch for raising and lowering the weight
    • Changing from wire to braid loses it's auto stop function
    • At time the 12v power plug loses contact that has the downrigger dead in the water. I changed over to Scotty plugs & receptical that solved the problem.
    • The newer model mount has a history of failing

I'm sure there's more but at the moment can't think of them.

If I had to chose again, I'd stick with Scotty.

scotty 1106 or Cannon Mag 10 STX

Hey guys, I found comparable pricing on these two units, looking for some insight on which would be my better option. I realize it’s pretty much a "Ford vs Chevy" dilemma, but am curious on your thoughts. So far, I’m leaning towards the Scotty’s as they claim to use a 1/3 less power as they do not use power when dropping down the ball (also one less thing to go wrong?).Thoughts?
