The U.S. District Court in Northern California rules on a case brought against NMFS by the Federation of Fly Fishers et al. The court overturns NMFS "not warranted" determination and finds that the agency erred in relying on the expected effects of future conservation measures.

NMFS requests that the Court allow 3 months additional time so that the public can be informed and new data reviewed.

The Court rejects NMFS' request and re-affirms that a new determination for KMP steelhead is due by March 31, 2001

NMFS re-proposes to list the KMP steelhead ESU as a threatened species so that new information can be evaluated prior to a final listing decision and schedules 2 public hearings for February 22, 2001.
