Unfortunately I don't have a boat so I was wondering if there's any decent place arount Monterey to either surf or pier fish?

Watch the reports around capitola pier. stripers come into the beaches once in a while and provide good action.
You may also thank about renting a skiff from capitola or santa cruz pier. Last time I did it was $75 a day.
Good luck

bayside marine santa cruz sept 16th

"There is a good Barracuda bite going off near Pleasure Point near the edge of the kelp. Some of the Barracuda have been as long as 3 feet long. The best lures for Barracuda have been Mega Baits and Kastmasters. When you are fishing for the Barracuda you may want to fly line a dead Squid for Seabass. There was one boat who went for Salmon today but only caught Mackerel. "

I also heard that there was a cuda caught on the pier too.....
so if you have a small boat you can launch from the beach
just at the base of the Capitola pier, you can park and drag
it about 80yds to the water and the surf is almost nothing there
and you can push off and motor out the the kelp beds.....
its a gas to catch the barracuda and some say they love
them, I find them slimy and smelly and throw them back...
anyway just a thought.....

here's the pier and you can see the parking on the right and there's
access on the left side you can back down a truck and unload...
or you can drive out on the pier and get a launch for 8.00.......
as you can see the surf here is always small......
and float tubes and surfboard fishing are popular too.....

heres a link of that pic of monterey if you didn't get to see it.......
