Although Al and I have gone crabbing several times crewing with other Skippers and twice in mine late in the season last year, yesterday was actually the first time we had our "ducks" in a row and limited out.

We left Spud Point Marina about 7:30 then headed north to Carmet area. We dropped four pots in 140' then piloted to Arch Rock area and dropped another four in 80'. Then we headed up a ways to do a little Rockfishing which was very, very slow. After three hours we headed back and pulled the shallow pots where we got out two limits in the first three pots. One pot was raided where the thieves cut the zip tie and left 6 small crabs. Hell the least they could have done was re-baited the pot http://outcastanglers.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif.

Curious to see what the other four produced, we pulled those where they were full but with smaller grade crabs. We released them, re-baited then headed for the barn.

The ocean was again, dead calm just like last Saturday. Weather forecast calls for small craft warning for the next several days so I'll be headed back on Sunday with the wife and a couple of my kids.

Life is great!! http://outcastanglers.com/forums/images/smilies/more/sSig_woohoo2.gif

After an early start, 0-dark thirty, we made our way to Bodega, a little breeze at the inner harbor when we got there. We had to adjust our shots for the shallower drop, after a short time we made our way to our first drop. After a couple snags, things smoothed out and we were working like a well oiled machine, got the traps dropped and went north for some rock fishing. We passed by Elk Hunter and his crew.

After a few hours of really slow rock fishing, we decided to go and pull our pots

The seas were nice and calm, Seon ran a straight course to our first string deep in thought, with high hopes of lots of crab

The first “pot” came up with 8 nice crab

We got our limits of commercial to jumbo grade crabs, two happy campers back in the harbor, clean and straighten and cleaned the boat, cooked the bounty in the parking lot, cleaned and packaged the crab, and headed for the barn around 5 PM
Happy, tired , and talking about our next trip
Another great day in the books with a great friend, thanks again Seon!

I forgot to mention, Seon and I saw a small whale in the kelp about 50 ft. from us while fishing. What a trip! I don’t know what kind of whale it was, all I know it was gray in color, it came up about 4 times near us.
Kind of cool!

I'm right there with you. I've got a 12 foot boat, but it's not going where they're going. I wish I had the money to put gas in a truck big enough to pull a boat big enough to go out where they go, lol.
