View Full Version : Shadow Cliffs 2/2

I took my girlfriend fishing for her first time on Saturday, 2/2. The plan was to go to New Melones but she had a change of heart and wanted to go somewhere closer to home (from San Jose) so I figured Shadow Cliffs would be fine.

Got lines wet around 6:15am and didn't get our first bite until about 7:30. First fish came on an inflated nightcrawler. It was fighting pretty hard and my girlfriend was having a good fight. When she finally got the fish to the surface we saw that it was a nice 2-3 lb catfish (I think it was about 16"-18"). Nice surprise since we weren't expecting to get anything but trout.

Continued fishing and switched power bait colors until we found one that worked: Rainbow

She managed to land two more fish, both trout. They were about 1-2 lbs each and about 14" in length. She did a good job letting the fish fight the pole and not horsing the line too much. Landed all fish that bit; glad she didn't lose any fish, and I think she had a good time! Called it quits around 11am and headed home for lunch.

Overall it was a nice relaxing day of fishing, and I was glad we were able to get on some fish so that the girlfriend wasn't bored haha. Hopefully everyone had a great weekend, and good luck on your fishing trips!

Nice work. Always nice to take the little lady fishin but I have to ask, what's up with the duck calls?

Wha.. wha.. wait...! I'm really glad she had a good time but you didn't mention ANYTHING about you catching a fish. Are you trying to hide that she kicked your butt? LOL :cheesy:

Hahaha, she did kick my butt! She was 3/3 and I was 0/0 :( not even a bite! Haha...it was nice just watching her reel in the fish though

Oh and the duck calls were in my fishing bag for some reason, and she wanted to know how to use them, so I let her play with them. She was trying to call a duck so she could take it home as a pet (she mostly just scared away all the ducks).

What the heck dude! I never catch anything when I go there. Beginner's luck? LOL

Good catches.. especially the catfish. Maybe I should take the wife here just to relax.

you girlfriend is a keeper, especially if she was willing to fish with you.

Put a ring on it!

Great stuff, hanahou7! I've been fishing Lake del Valle since last year and I'm looking to start at Shadow Cliffs on 2/18 as it is less than a mile from my house and has water depths from shore much more conducive for catching trout. Unfortunately, unless one wants to hike to the Narrows, Lake del Valle's deep water is now inaccessible to shore fisherman. Will you be fishing on the 18th? I'd like to hook up. I plan to get out there when the gate opens and park and fish near Dock 2. You'll find me with one of my high school buddies, Jay, and my red fox lab, Hobbes.
