Tuesday morning my 12 year old son says, Dad can we go fishing? The answer - of course! So we hustled after work/school and headed to ICR. Made the mistake of going to the main road - covered in snow. Backtracked to Scossa Canyon Rd and made it fine. Only we only had about 1.5 hours of daylight. Found our spot and put out a Gulp rod and an inflated crawler. I grabbed a spinning rod and started casting a gold Kastmaster off the dam. One small striked on the KM convinced me to keep casting. The son yells - Dad, come help. I turn to see my Medium-Light spinning rod nearly doubled over and the drag singing. As I stumbled over the rocks, he starts to gain in this fish. I get there just as he is bringing this colorful brown to shore. Estimated at 20 inches and about 3 lbs. This is one happy boy! We cooked for dinner the next night with a sausage stuffing and it was absolutely delicious!

Surprised me too! Saw another brown trout head near the dam while casting so there are still a few in there. Did Alpine county sneak a plant of big browns in while we were not looking?

According to DFG regs on planting in the area no fish can be stocked unless they are triploids or LCT. Never heard of triploid browns but I suppose it's possible. The color and tail leads me to believe that the fish has been in the lake for awhile.
