I found this website page that explains "in depth" how to use bobber stops to determine water depth and then control lure depth range. http://www.bulletbobber.com/sliprig.html

The bobber and bead designs are genius! IMO

Those stops are the ones used by Scotty on all their downriggers as stops. They have been around for many years but I have not seen any with the slot small enough to fit light mono. The stops are pretty big and I do not see how they will go through the guides like other stops. Maybe they are only used to try to find water depth and then are switched to small bobber stops??

Lone Angler, They fit through the guides but you can't cast them. I use a long rod but still limited to fishing no deeper then I can reach up with my rod tip in casting position. For fish that are 8' is about the limit. You can always substitute a castable stop for the upper bead.

The BulletBobber Bad Beads are the smallest ever made that press on and pop off.

You can use a regular slip bobber and bobber stop, and split shot under the bobber. Then you can check the depth in 40+ feet of watere. Then tie on a hook and fish without having to rerig your whole set up.
