Last I heard there was partial ice coverage. Study a map of the area. There are A LOT of options in that area, if Ice House doesn't pan out. Good luck.

See as the pass was closed for the last storm I would assume it got some last week. We are also do for another storm next week as well.

Study a map of the area.
I just happen to have a map here (http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/interactive/html/map.html?ql=station&zoom=&loc=38.8690+N%2C+120.6150+W&var=snow_depth_shallow&dy=2013&dm=3&dd=11&dh=6&snap=1&o5=1&o6=1&o11=1&o9=1&o12=1&o13=1&lbl=m&o15=1&o7=1&mode=pan&extents=us&min_x=-120.61666666667&min_y=38.666666666667&max_x=-120.25833333333&max_y=38.941666666667&coord_x=-120.4375&coord_y=38.804166666667&zbox_n=&zbox_s=&zbox_e=&zbox_w=&metric=0&shdvar=shading&width=780&height=600&nw=780&nh=600&h_o=0&font=0&js=1&uc=0) in my back pocket...
it says there's plenty of snow at Icehouse now - but less so in a few days (http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/interactive/html/map.html?ql=station&zoom=&loc=38.8795+N%2C+120.6155+W&var=snow_depth_shallow&dy=2013&dm=3&dd=15&snap=1&o5=1&o6=1&o11=1&o9=1&o12=1&o13=1&lbl=m&o15=1&o7=1&mode=pan&extents=us&min_x=-120.61666666667&min_y=38.666666666667&max_x=-120.25833333333&max_y=38.941666666667&coord_x=-120.4375&coord_y=38.804166666667&zbox_n=&zbox_s=&zbox_e=&zbox_w=&metric=0&shdvar=shading&width=780&height=600&nw=780&nh=600&h_o=0&font=0&js=1&uc=0) - so since that road is always plowed, I'd say go check it out!

But as Bainter1212 said, there are other options in the area... like a lake roughly the same size, to the southwest, that's probably mostly free of snow on its shores... and a half-hour closer.

Thanks for all the help guys. Also, thanks for the NOAA map. I didnt know NOAA made those. However, they need to coordinate with USGS and label some more map features....I called the information line morning and they said the launch ramp was clear of ice. Me and 2 other kookes(:cheesy:) are going to try to camp friday night and fish friday and saturday.

Well, couldn't take it anymore and had to check out Ice House res. Mainly targeting those big ole browns that show up when things first open up. Went there this morning and started trolling at the crack of light around 6ish. Trolled U=20 Green frog flatfish down at about 10 ft and one top water rapalla at a foot or so. Headed trolling directly towards dam and caught 5 dinks on the top before I got over there. All released. It was on for those seaking those little planters but was not my target fish. Then wammo on the green frog flatfish. Nice 3 pound brown by the dam. Then dink after dink after dink. I caught and released at least 15 of those little buggers. Talk about cold. 25 degrees this morning. Water 42. By 9;30 you couldn't buy a fish of any size out there. It was over. Trolled banks for an hour or so more as some boats started showing up. Finally tossed in the towell at 11. If you like catching those little planters if you can stand the cold, you have to get there at o dark thirty and it's off the hook. I even caught 3 of them on my green frog u 20. The lure is so big I have no idea how they managed to get hooked. Not saying it was not fun. Lots of action but was really there for old moe. I know they are there lurking in the shadows. Going to try again in a couple of days but this time at o dark thirty in the evening for a couple of hours. Good luck to you all..................

Thanks for the report! Anyone try bank fishing there lately? If so any suggestions on where to go?
