My freind took me out Saturday and we went to the Truckee area to boat fish. Though we were hoping browns all we got were Mackinaw trout. He said there are some monster German Brown Trout in this lake but the Mackinaw took over and are very easy to catch! We did lose one German Brown Trout about 6 or 7 pounds that got away and took his lure. But hey I caught my 1st ever Mackinaws! We caught 4 macks in less then 3 hours, the weights ranged from 4 pounds to 9 pounds. We hit the lake below 1st but there was about 8 boats out there! He said it was like Amador. So we got out of there to check out Stampede, only a few boats and a much bigger lake!! I really liked the views here and we found a lot of fish gusts from large fish that got cleaned out recently at the boat ramp and one of the inlets was still frozen. We caught the fish on Rapalas deep. We found a note on the windsheild when we got off the lake. Something I cannot repeat on this forum. Anyways I took our catch home for the inlaws to eat who asked me to bring back fish. They were very happy needless to say. He sent me some pictures and told me how to post them.

Sorry for the very late reply!!! The ramp was plowed the night before at 6pmish. We met the guys who did it when we left the lake the following day. They seemed suprised we were up there and out fishing, I guess they assumed no one would come check the ramp and they'd have it all to themselves!! Haha. Everyone should thank to the guys with a bass boat who work at some lumber company who plowed it, maybe toss'em a beer!!! The ramp is very icy now in the mornings some have slid and jackknifed from the stories I've heard. Becareful!

My friend went out again Sunday, he said it was a zoo up there, that you would of thought a Derby was going on at least 30 boats were out there. So I guess the secret is out!! He sent me this picture.

I have a buddy that plowed the road in from russel valley a few years ago,big mistake the fishing was off the hook and so was the ticket and the fine.To much info about the person who opened up the road might get him in hot water. The guts at the boat ramp were from a 21# mack and the note i,m guessing is from a local blow hard who hides behind paper and pen instead of a face to face talk.Good looking fish!

Just curious PCWA... , the picture with you shows the lake has snow and what looks like maybe 5' of bathtub ring while the picture your friend sent you has no snow in the background and a 20'+ bathtub ring. Is the picture of the Mack from a different time?

The picture of me is from when I went and the picture of her is from the following week when they went. So theres only a wee difference. I guess alot of the ice in the truckee arm had melted too. The snow is melting fast!!!

Well I guess Stampede is open, any one catching any Kokanee? If so any secrets? And what about the size? Thinking about going there or Union Valley Res soon. PCWA, does that stand for Placer County Water Agency? After 27 years in the maintenance department at Campbell Soup in Sacramento I just got laid off, applied at PCWA for a job in Foresthill but got turned down, sounded good, at 58 years old this is going to be a tough job search! Thanks for the fishing update!

Troll the shoreline in 15 to 20 feet for Browns, stick baits 4 to 6 inchs . Troll in the middle / deeper Parts of Lake/ Dam off downriggers with Larger lures. 6 to 10 inchs....... Cover in Pro-Cure Trophy Trout Gel Scent. .... mid depth or closer to bottom, under Kokanee schools. In the Morning and at evening the Kokanee schools would Periodically Explode Out of the Water as the Monster Browns and Macks Feed Heavy. Our trip was a couple weeks ago. Larger results are as follows, They fit in the Ice Box...not the Live well. There are Way Bigger Archs ... untouched as well. Only boat on the water at the Pede that day , more boats out now and you may have work with a wide variety of Angling Styles. . Ice gone and sun has made it drive and launch able . Take your time and try to get there at.... O Dark Thirty..Sun Up or Before Sun Down .We try to spend the day, at least. Good Luck. gst http://imageshack.us/a/img843/1030/047wat.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img689/7767/062bvs.jpg

Lots of thinly veiled innuendo here PCWA, i know that you and a particular guy dont get along well, i suspect the note refers to him or to a friend who may be in the tackle biz???? ive never met ANY of you personally, yet ive gotten into verbal conflicts with two of you here, either directly on the forums or via PM's that questioned my integrity.....Was i to blame in any way for this? yeah, ive stirred the kettle and provoked a person or two here, i will readily admit this. Fact is i like to fish, so do the two guys im referring to........people use these forums to showcase there skills, and in some cases promote themselves and related businesses, and thats an accepted fact! are there people here who possess a style that i find a little over the top, yeah! Are there people here who may not like me or my style, Yeah probably there are! But we ALL fish, and we arent in a state thats friendly to our hobby.........ALL parties involved need to clear the air and address there grievances, rather than just insinuate.......

For the Macks I would run out a few colors of Lead Core with good Leader to get your presentation down to 40 to 60 feet in the deeper parts during the Day . Good Hunting !! :salmon: gst
