Got a call Tuesday from Mike G, my long time buddy from grade and High School. He had fished Pyramid with me in December and he's kind of hooked. Said he would be arriving the next day. Mike arrives on the first day of spring along with gentle 60 MPH winds. Not good for Pyramid. The weather guesser said that the high winds were going to moderate after midnight so we set the clocks for early and crossed our fingers.

Arrived at Block House at 0645 with temps in in the low 40s and winds from the north at 5 to 15 MPH. Not too shabby. When we started there was only one other fisherman on the shore and it wasn't until 0900 until any others arrived. One of Mike's goals this trip was to get a new personal best trout. We fished until noon and got two fish to the shore. Both were nice and it was mission accomplished for Mike with a nice 25 inch male. We also toured a bit and checked the action at the North Nets and Pelican. There were only a few people at the Nets but a goodly crowd of ladder fishermen at Pelican. Saw a couple of smaller fish caught. It turned out to be a nice day. Congrats Mike on a new PB trout.

Nice report. It looks like the fly guys are starting to cram the shores. North nets looks like less guys out there but I can see 2 ladders sticking up so it was not empty, for sure. This is the time of year I try to stay away from shore fishing at the lake because I do not like crowds fishing near me (check my name) and my wife and I have had unfortunate experiences such as being in a bay all by ourselves and having a large van of flyfishers pull up with 8 guys, all who proceeded to run into the water with their ladders and set up as close as 10 feet from us!:mad2: Unfortunately, between now and the middle of may, pyramid sees the worst of the shore fishing behavior.

Great report Richard! Glad your buddy got a pb. Hard to plan for that unless his pb was 5oz haha.

LOL Oh, and those are more than just a three step ladder. :-) Goofing around and found this pretty cool vid this guy did. Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Ladder - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOAAD0kAGlk)

The best accessory on his ladder is at the end of the vid. LOL

This is ugly....

Not all guys are dorks during this time of year at Pyramid, so you may find yourself near nice guys. I just like more solitude when I am fly fishing since I grew up fishing alone all the time. If you have space, bring your gear.

Note to self: Bring boat, fly fisherman trolling season is open. Limit is two ladders per day. 1 point for blue, 2 points for orange, 3 points for yellow. Ladders under 8' and over 10' must be released.

Kidding aside, I love to fly fish and will probably bring the fly rod but I'll leave the ladder at home until I know the area better.

Ladders are really only necessary when there are waves that could upset an angler otherwise waders suffice. You can't put a ladder in deeper water than you can wade too. Definately bring them to the fest. Sometimes the wind is too bad to allow you to launch. The shore may be the only way to get fish.
