in 5 or 6 times since 2002, ive observed large schools of tule perch in shallow waters next to dropoffs with sumerged weedbeds. all belly swollen females were capured by drivng them into dip nets the scattered school would almost immediatly reassemble but would not leave the shallows for the weedbeds in deeper water. is there a stategy to this behavior . also a slight pressure while holding one would cause her to eject a newborn perch 1/4 her size. an amazing discovery the first time i viewed this .
