I caught one just like this the other day, except mine was a rainbow, it was 12 inches, and it weighed less than a pound. Otherwise, almost the same fish. The fish in the canals in NZ are different than the ones which are in the rivers and the ocean run browns they have. Why? The canal browns eat the pellets which make it out of the salmon hatcheris and thus grow to HUGE sizes. Canal fish by NZ anglers are viewed as unatural unsportsmen deformed fish, unlike the wild trout of thier rivers. Most anglers in NZ who have any dignity won't fish the canals. This is just their point of view.
