I use the same length as one color (10 yards). That way I have plenty if I need to cut off frayed sections or change tackle often. Also give me plenty of warning when the fish or lure is nearing the boat.

Hope this helps,

I use 75-100 feet then I tie on a very small barrel swivel after that I use a short leader of fluorocarbon maybe 6-7 feet or so. Good luck out there.

CJ, it varies, a sort of rule of thumb when trolling is to have your rig 100' or more behind the boat. 200' is about my limit. I like to run between 3 and 4 colors in deep water so I'm usually back far enough and my only concern is if the lure can move like it's supposed to. 16-18' is usually plenty for that.

When I'm up at Eagle Lake and trolling slow in 9-12 feet of water I've only got 1.5 colors in the water so my leader is about 50'.

The minum I run is reel to tip and back or about 16-18' (never measured).

Long leaders for most lakes but on Pyramid I don't go much more than the lenght of the rod. For Pyramid I use 27 lb leadcore and 15# or stronger line for the leader with a swivel between. The LCT's are not line shy for the most part and they hammer the setup with can snap a light line (like a striper).........Jetspray

Man just about everyone has different length. That makes sense to use short leader for deep water and longer leader for shallow

Problem for me with leadcore is the miles of line you need to let out just to get it to 15 ft level. If you wanna make short circles or quick turns forget it, and there is no control of depth for certain speeds. If you put anything on a line it just makes it worse when reeling in (dipsys, bananna weights, or anything). DR's are best.........Jetspray
