Probably a dumb question, but what the hell. I have a bunch of power bait I've had for years. I've been fishing when I can, but can't seem to get any luck. Although this power bait is still moist and seems usable, do you figure that is my problem (or at least part of it, haha)?
Should I dump it and try to keep a fresh bottle instead?

Well, pb is pretty cheap, but I've used old stuff and it worked.

I have used some years old as long as it's not dried out I don't see a problem. I guess it's possible it has lost some of it's stink but not to my nose. It smells bad fresh or old. :winkfs:

It's not the pb, banking right now can be tough in this heat. Try some lures and compare. I have some pb with a metal lid and a glass jar. It's probally at least ten years old and works just fine.

Here's my two cents worth. I go through a jar of PB about every three weeks. By the time I get to the bottom, the bites aren't there, but if I open a new jar, the bite is on. I think the stuff goes stale and rather fast. You might try putting a little bait scent on it too.

There is probably something to that. I cracked a new jar of Zeke's Saturday and had a limit of rainbows in less than an hour.
But they may have just stocked the lake too, since all 9 fish we caught were 12-14 inches.

Well...I had really good luck with some powerbait that was at least 10 years old. When it was gone, I bought the same color and couldn't catch anything with it. Probably just a coincidence, but I now believe that if it's still soft it's good to go! Adding some scent, as suggested above, might be a good idea.

Mostly it is how it is stored. All of mine is sealed in ziploc's in a plastic box in the garage. It is in a cool place as well. Once it is opened make sure you use that jar up completely. Adding scent does work however I use PB with Gulp as Gulp does not stay on the hook that well. It is up to you how you use it or frequency:wink::fishing1:........Jetspray

After each fishing trip, I put my power bait back in the small fishing "frig" in my garage. I always check the opened jars before taking them on the next fishing trip. If they are too dry, or don't have the right sticky feel, I dump them. But some of my PB lasts for a long time. A couple of more points: 1) Unlike a lot of fishermen, I prefer regular pb to gulp. It sticks on the hook better and in my experience is just as effective in attracting the fish to it. 2) After a couple of casts, I will add some Herring Oil or Carp Spit to it. Panther

I have found half empty jars of power bait that was as hard as a rock, took it home put a little water in it and was fresh as new in a couple days. Power bait lasts me a few months if not a year or more work till the last wad for me.

Please mail all the old stuff to me, I'm a cheap skate :)

It also help seal the jar better if you put the white seal in the top of the lid when reclosing, cuts down on litter too, those white circles are everywhere.

eBay is a great site in fishing deals! If you don't want cheap quality, find brands! Sometimes there's good deals on lead for bullet casting or fishing weights. Should be getting some good quality hooks soon, will supply those who are sniffers and fish the AR for salmon.. Free of charge! Cheers :)
