View Full Version : Del Valle no skunk! 4-28-13

Haven't been to DV in a very long time even though it used to be one of our favorites. Finally heard of some decent fish being caught so today we gave her a shot. Up ay 4:30 and on the water just after sunrise around 7am. The lake is really full right now.
Headed out to Swallow bay and bank fished near Badger cove for a total of zero bites. Decided to break out the downriggers and we trolled between 20-60 ft all the way to the dam. No hits on the DRs but the top-liner with the black and silver J-7 landed me this nice 18" bow at 9:45. Yay no skunk!
We had planned on bait fishing from Tarantula beach but it was occupied and they told us they hadn't had bite all day so we continued doing circles in the dam area. In fact we never saw anyone else catching today but I am sure some probably did.
We were changing up lures and presentation often but the J-7 goes off again and it's Mike's turn. He outdid me and landed a 21" trout.
A few more laps and we trolled back to the launch around noon. It hadn't been too hot for most of the morning but that was changing fast and a whole plethora of party boats and paddle boarders were descending on us. Time to head in.
The guys at the banding station were funny as they said "Hey strangers!" We haven't seen them for well over a year but they still remembered us. :)
So to sum up the day I would say It wasn't as great as I had hoped for but at the same time it was way better than I had feared it might be. Thinking of going again next Sunday with a little more knowledge in our pocket and head right for the dam area super early.
Here are some bonus pics,
I finally got tired of broken and tangled lures and filled up a few of these.
This is a new addition I haven't seen before.

Hope you all got some fishing in this weekend!
Til next adventure then,
Mike and Kristy.

Wow the lake is really full. Those shots are great looking. That barge looks like a welders platform for some sort of underwater duty. Maybe southern Ca needs more water or sumpin'. Great to see you had a non-skunk day:cheers:........Jetspray

Kristy I have no idea, pics here seem to work well as far as I know.At one time I had 32 babies, all had names, shots, fixed etc. Most outside of course, garage was a 500 sf.cat house!!We were/are part of a group of people here that foster stray cat/kittens by the litter!!The way it's supposed to work is we care for em till someone adopts them, that way they won't be killed at the pound!!!Since 1989 I've had 3 adopted an one of them was brought back,LOL.He was a little Rambo kitten!!Whoops I'm rambling again, sorry!!!Try your pics in multiple posts!!....Don
