Not a single damn shad.

My shoulder and wrist are killing me from trying.

Going back out tomorrow. 0530 this time. If I don't catch one I might go wonkers.

Geez...you will fish for shad that long? Hmm - you need a shad therapist. If your not catching anything in that much time frame, then I think it's time to stick around Miller or Freeport, at least you'll get some action every hour or two. Discovery perhaps?

Dude.... I'd spend a month straight 8 hours a day in search of my favorite fish. It's more than an obsession, more than an addiction.....
If you don't get it I can't explain it to you.

If you wanted to catch shad fishing those hours you should have gone to Freeport. The Shad mostly bite early in the morning and in the evening on the American River. I have heard that if you have an overcast day they will bite all day.

When the shad are in thick on the AR they will bite all day. Last year I had a few days where my buddy and I spent 16 hours on the water and never stopped hammering em. We just have to wait for more fish to move in though.

You heard wrong brother. Shad will bite all day(I stuck one at 11:30 with Banker the other day) You just gotta know where they are during different parts of the day.

It's early yet. The schools on The AR are still a little scattered and intermittent. I caught some at Sunrise a few nights ago, so they are moving up. My suggestion is if you don't catch any in an hour (at most) at your spot, move up or down the river and try to find a school. Later in May and into June it won't matter so much. They will be pretty much everywhere and you can wait for them to swim by.

Also --- what are you using? The AR is low and clear. Go very small with your jig and light on the line - 3 or 4 lb. test.

I am always open to fish after work and open to new spots.

I will be going out at nights as much I can (Fri,Sat,Sun). I can take you out fishing. 4lb line,1/32 oz jig heads, and 1" grubs will help. I will share tackle and lures if you don't have the right tackle. I am good at catching Shad and can show you how to catch them.
