Anybody ever fish the Happy Hooker out of Berkeley Marina? I'm looking at a pot luck trip on that boat and was wondering about anybody's experiences. Thanks!

Fished on the boat with Jim last year for rock cod and did well. Very frendly crew, and they take good care of their customers. One gal dropped her pole in the water and Jim's son almost went overboard with the gaff to retrieve her pole and he did. We were supposed to fish for halibut on the way back, but it ended up coming back too late from the cod fishing grounds.

I went out on it 2 years ago with my fiance on a striper halibut combo. I landed a 20lb halibut and 15lb stripper. My fiance landed 2 halibuts and a small striper. Good time good company. For rock cod I recomend the silver fox when the season starts. They take really good care of their customers and they know some really awesome spots for big lings.

Jay I have never been out on the Happy Hooker, but I have been on alot of the other boats in Emeryville. The Huck Finn is a very good boat to go Potlucking on. Also the Captain Hook is another awsome boat. I have been on most of there boats and have never had a bad experience. Good Luck.

BTW I'll be going out next Wednesday on a party with my brother and son if you wanna hook up with us let me know.

Thanks for the invite recs! But, unfortunatley I'll be out of town for work until next Friday *:( Also, thanks to everybody who has replied. It's funny, but I've asked around about several boats and I always seem to get the same mix of replies no matter which boat I ask about. *;) LOL, some folks have had great experiences on each boat and some have had horrible experiences.

Hey Jay! Yeah, I'm everywhere. Jim Smith on the hooker is a very good captain. His son James owns the California Dawn. His son Chris used to own the Capt Hook. They are a great family, knowlegable anglers, and a bunch of fun to hang out with.
Once when James owned the Baywatch, I was out with him on a very slow sturgeon run... he could tell people were getting bored, so he broke out his gas powered blender and started serving us all frozen margaritas (no, he didn't partake).

Recs1jbf -
The Huck Fin is a great boat. I used to go out when Art was captain and Jay was a deck hand - used to catch a lot of stripers in the surf. They'd back the boat into the beach and brail bait....lots of action.

Anyone know what happened to the New Huck Fin?

Happy Hooker and Jim are GREAT.

I havn't been in a couple of years because of the new "boat limit". I cant stand the thought of someone else catching MY fish. I go for the catch, not for the meat. Even with boat limits, I stop when I have mine unless someone is sick and wants the boat to help out.
