Met with Nighthawk and picked up Jetspray and headed up 88 for al look. We arrived at Caples shortly after 0700 and fished at the south corner of the dam. It was a beautiful spring day. Caples is nearly full and free of any ice. The day use area and launch are open but the campground is closed. Fishing was very slow and managed only one fish in 1 1/2 hours. Next stop was Red Lake. We fished there for a short while in a heavy west with no luck. Talking to other anglers we were told that fishing was very slow and we saw 1 8 inch LCT on a stringer. Next we checked out the W. Carson at Hope Valley. The river was in great shape but there were no fish evident. The road to Blue Lakes remains closed 7 miles above 88. We checked out other spots on the West Carson and found them equally devoid of fish. Other anglers we talked to were fishless. Lastly we stopped at ICR and got only one fish from below the campground. The wind was a factor. If you are planning on comming up you may want to wait another week. Fishing is slow. Tom, Dave it was nice fishing with you guys. Maybe next week will be better.

Hey Captain, Thanks for the scouting report. I guess we will wait a week or two. You saved us a tank of gas. Looking forward to meeting up with you this season.

Taking a boat on ICR depends, IMO on how shallow you can launch it. I have a beater 14' fiberglass paired with an '88 longshaft 'Zuk motor and I wonder depending on the lake level. Launched a few times and makes me a bit curious if a heavier boat wouldn't scrape a bit.

It is launchable for smaller boats. The ramp is a little steep with no dock. If you can drive down, launch the boat, and nose your boat in, you're good to go. Good luck it was a nice day but it does become "Windian Creek" at about eleven:action-smiley-035::smiley:..........Jetspray

Great pictures! Even if the fishing was not spectacular the areas you guys went to are surely spectacular! I am disappointed the Blue Lakes road is not open yet. Thanks for the pictures and report Richard!

Just curious.. how's the weather there during the day.. was it cold and breezy or is it good weather for camping/hiking? Thinking of heading up there to Caples and camp for Memorial Day.

Ed. I would be surprised if the Blue Lakes Road is not open by next Friday.

Hybird. The weather always changes. In the morning the winds were light and the temps mild. Only a sweat shirt needed at Caples. By 1300 at ICR it clouded up and the wind was howling. This time of year you pays your money and take your chances.

Captain C, Great photos and I'm surprised at the lack of snow around the lakes. Have you tried the area where Woods Creek comes into Caples?

We did look at the parking lot access and drove down to the Caples new launch. Everything was clear there Don:wine1:.........Jetspray

The EID ramp is open. There was only one boat trailor in the lot. The Resort is still closed. Only one troller on the lake.

I have an old 19ft Cobalt open bow(fiberglass so fairly heavy I suppose) so I am wondering if Icehouse is accessible for me. Are there lakes up there I should avoid with my boat?

My problem with ICR is the steep ramp and shallow drop. I would probably destroy my pump nozzle on the concrete. If the lake was up a little more it would not be much of a problem. It can also be a problem where the concrete ends and sand/rock bottom begins. If your boat is heavy enough you could break an axle trying to pull it out of the water (no dock available). It does not cost anything to take a look, only the gas to get there..........Jetspray

Rugby I was at uvr yesterday and dock in water...fee envelopes out...skunked but found fish just before leaving at all depths along the drop off of the east shoreline close to sunset ramp
