We are doing it at New Melones in June!

June 15th, 7 am we are fishing for Kokanee Salmon, Rainbow Trout and then having a bbq afterwards.

We need to start a list of names with what you can provide. Boaters and non-boaters are both welcome to come out.
We will need name and contact info as well as how many you can host on board if you are bringing a boat.

We are looking at making this event at New Melones becoming a regular event for June, the way our Camanche event and Brannan island events have become regular events in May.

Any questions please pm me or Randy Houston for info on here. Anyone on Facebook, please feel free to look me up and me so we can share pics and get to know everyone better and build this community we have here.

Thank you all in advance and we look forward to seeing how big we can make this event!

Yes we are still on for the 15th. I have been very busy getting things together for that event as well as leaving this Friday for 4 days. I have spent the past couple of weeks also studying for and taking my captains test to guide on the river also. I did pass that week ago and have been running around getting all of my coast guard paperwork completed.

If anyone wants to help out, contact them at the Glory Hole Sports Store and add your name to the list. I guess they are keeping track of the amount of people.
We have been doing very good on our raffle ticket sales and have decided our next event with PHA will be river salmon fishing!

Thank you to everyone who has already and continues to support what we are doing with the veterans.

I'm pretty sure the event is scheduled for glory hole as that's closer to the store. I'm not even sure where the bbq event will be. I'm waiting to hear from Randy to complete the details. I will check back with you all shortly to confirm.

For those of you that have committed to being there I will add you to the list of boats and volunteers. I can't thank you enough for this. If anybody has any problem and can't make it please contact me at randy@purpleheartanglers.org so we can find a replacement boat. Don't want to leave someone at the dock.

Randy, can you post the list of boats/Skippers and crew? Also number of Vets you expect to attend?
I'd like to post the info in other forums to see if we can get more boats if needed but don't want to wait until the 11th hours.

As for me, I could use a deck hand. Please pm me if you can crew on the FV Reel Kahuna.

I've asked but not answered so I'll rephrase my question to the Sniffer members...

Who planned on bringing their boat to Melones this Saturday and host a Vet for a day's fishing??

At this time I have 4 confirmed boats from Team Mc total and waiting on a couple others checking their schedules. Hopefully a couple more, but 4 are locked in for sure.

I believe that according to the glory hole sports newsletter, they claim to have more boats than they needed signed up. Seems to me, there should be a master list, since 6 boats we have here don't seem near enough. I think glory hole is running this, I'm not one to step on toes, but there should be some communication with Melanie up at the store.

Heck, if that's the case, I can cancel out and attend my youngest grand-daughter's graduation ceremony. Unless otherwise informed, I'm bowing out.

Due respect Doug, I thought you were the Sniffer's POC on this. I called Glory Hole last week but the young lady I spoke to didn't know much about this event so she gave me Melanie's number which I called and left a message...but no reply.

I sent Randy an email informing him that Iíll not be attending this event.

Uh yeah. First post on this was from you Doug, sure sounded like you were setting this thing up. So do we or do we not have enough boats?

Lets not jump on Doug here guys. Im sure he's scrambling to get info as best he can. He posts these events on behalf on PHA with the info he has. It appears this may have been a case in which too many different people were trying to get it organized without enough communication between them.

Yeah no need to get all upset at me. I'm just passing on what I find out as I get updated info. I know that Randy has the overall say on how many vets are coming based on the number of boats volunteered. I just know that from the sound of the recent newsletters from glory hole sports, they have not mentioned me or the sniffers, just themselves and PHA with Randy being the point of contact. I only mean that we need to find out what glory hole sports store has down for boats being brought.

Glory hole sports has sent out information saying they had plenty of boats per the number of vets coming. Now if anyone should say something, I would like to say, if you plan on volunteering and bringing a boat, just let us know, and if you do, show up. I along with Randy get frustrated when we have 20+ boats volunteering and 10 show up with most of those being my team that weren't even part of the original list.

I'm going to contact Randy again and confirm numbers as we have been working on that the past couple of days. I can tell you that we are welcome to anyone and everyone who wants to come out, boat or not, please come visit and meet the vets. We did an event at Camanche this year with 35 vets signed up and the bus couldn't make it and we ended up with only 8 vets. Randy told me he was disappointed, I said I don't care if I come out here with 100 volunteers and only one veteran shows up! It's about the vets and not about us or our businesses or our own agendas. I promise you will have the rest of the story here shortly as I made my previous comment in between 911 calls on my day job. My apologies if it came across wrong.

Randy just replied to me that he is in a meeting and will give us updated numbers tomorrow morning with all of the sources combined of boat totals and vets coming. I am trying to organize these events and help make them bigger and better and nearly every month instead of a couple of times a year. I am still bound by what Randy allows me to do. I was not in agreement when glory hole sports store wanted to make the PHA event into a derby or tournament style format as there are special permits required for tournaments as well as the variation of volunteers ranging from professional guides to people who fun fish and just want to thank a vet by sharing the day with them. I don't think it's fair to make a competition out of an event such as this. Donations and gifts or raffle prizes for the vets is great, but then winning prizes based on how good we help them catch fish isn't fair. I was not contacted one time by glory hole store since starting this event posting to communicate with me what they have done other than the group emails they send everyone.

Seon, I understand if you want to go to the graduation, I wouldn't think anyone would want you to miss such a special occasion. I hope you didn't take it wrong when I said there should be a master list, and stepping on anyone toes was my way of saying that I'm trying to coordinate as much as I'm allowed to, without stepping on Randy or glory hole sports toes with regards to what info they have obtained that I have not been told about yet. I am very thankful to everyone who has stepped up and shown up to spend the day with PHA. This is truly one of the most rewarding things I have ever been involved in during my lifetime. I'm going to see what else I can confirm for everyone as soon as I hear from Randy.

Randy reports to me, 14 boats including my team, and the glory hole volunteers. 36 veterans are signed up not including a few vets that are either coming with me or have been invited by me as volunteers. So as of this posting, those of you who are bringing boats this Saturday to meet at the glory hole launch ramp at 7 am, please add your name to this posting so I can confirm you to that master list being kept by Randy Houston that I mentioned before.

Thank you all again for your help with this event and look forward to seeing everyone again this Saturday to show our veterans the appreciation they have earned.

I have my annual family picnic tomorrow and will not be able to attend. I did talk to my uncle Bob Muhlbier and he said he singed up through Glory Hole and he has a fully loaded 22ft Jet Craft and he can take 2-3 out. Bob is a guide and knows Melones well. I wish all good luck and I am disappointed I could not make the delta trip or this one. RF

Sounds good, we are looking good as long as whoever signed up through Glory Hole Sports shows up. We are looking at getting an event planned for salmon season when the river opens. Might be too hot and busy on the water right at the opener. I'm thinking about making that event more of a Fall event. I know that Seon is good at setting up stuff on the river so I will see if he wants to work with me on that or if I can work with him or whatever we can do to make it happen.

The disabled veteran fishing trip to New Melones was a success. Thanks to all of you who came to support PHA and honor our disabled veteran participants. We had about 60 people including Purple Heart recipients and a Pearl Harbor survivor and his wife. Melanie and her husband, the owners of Glory Hole Sports were wonderful hosts. Black Oak Casino along with others who donate on line through our raffles and our website Automatic Donation option donated money for the food, prizes and other necessities. There were local disabled veterans and some from the Modesto Salvation Army Veterans Program. Our gratitude to all of you.
