I'll have a meeting set up next Thursday August 22th at 6pm at Sam's Pizza. Did I mention free pizza?

Please bring your questions and concerns about salmon, bass, trout fishing along the San Joaquin River. I would prefer you RSVP so I can get a head count and order food accordingly. For best results please email me your questions at sthao@tu.org.

Call me at (559) 709-5948 if you get lost.

Steve

I was interested but I couldn't get around to replying on my phone and ended up forgetting about it until now. I'm sorry that no one replied to this thread. I'm most interested in the river section between the 41 and 99 freeways, including Sycamore Island.

A plan to create a larger better fishing habitat for over 30,000 anglers within a 50 mile radius and reintroducing salmon into the 2nd largest river system in California is a BIG deal. I hope you were joking because as an angler you should take every opportunity to learn what is going on around the state in terms of fishing and enhancement of fishing opportunities.

The Delta Striper issue is a huge issue. The salmon run in Northern California is a huge issue. We all have our regional issues i.e. NoCal, Socal, Coastal CA, Central CA or Sierra's CA but I hope everyone will band as anglers and learn about this issue more.

Does this plan to create more fishing involve taking more water out of the delta?

The water would come from Millerton Lake not the Delta. In fact it'll increase water to the Delta.

Is the project to make the SJR a live stream still being constructed or has funding dried up. Haven't heard much about it once the tunnel ideas started. Seems BOR and Congress dropped this

the settlement between the San Joaquin River Partnership and the BOR/water districts still stands. Having one of the worse years in terms of rainfall really hurts but the settlement is a sharing of the water and the San Joaquin River will only be taking a small percentage of water that has been diverted from Millerton Lake by the water districts. The construction of Friant Dam nearly 60 years ago took all that water - the settlement is not to take back all that natural flow but to have a management system for farmers to continue using the water and allowing a small percentage to go down stream to revitalize the San Joaquin River.

Here is a video about SalmonFest that happened last November

FresnoTU is close to me in venue.....that would explain his exuberant enthusiasm. It can't be the water we drink, because.....we don't have any water, but it may very well be the beef.

You should re-attempt this meeting FresnoTU. I would expect a better response if you could furnish some guest speakers from CA Fish and Wildlife or the SJR Conservancy.

Hi Ed, we actually had Fish and Wildlife there to talk about several issues - possible closure of fishing along the San Joaquin - poaching/enforcement issues - update on the settlement.

We are always working with the San Joaquin River Conservancy. They partnered with us on the SalmonFest and I actually presented to the board of directors two days ago about opening up a new fishing pond that will be isolated and open for trout plants for local anglers.

We will sponsor a fishing derby in April and will have Fish and Wildlife out there along with other partners in the river restoration. Stay tuned for the flyer and more information.

Could be, depending on what they concoct. They're looking to grab water from wherever they can...

The San Joaquin River restoration came as a result of a Federal Court decision that has been affirmed on appeal to the 9th Circuit.

The basis of the ruling was that the Feds violated then existing law when they constructed Milerton dam and other projects beginning in the1950s.

I am not sure that Congress can pass legislation altering or nullifying the Court decision.
