This was my 4th year of being on the Pacific Voyager for a 3 1/2 day tuna trip. This trip turned into a marathon event and I think captain Mark burned enough fuel for 2 trips in order to give us the best chance at killing some tuna. Finally, on the 3rd day and some 200 miles from home, in pouring down rain, the trip turned epic. We had 100# tuna boiling all around us- even after we'd quit chumming. I got to see my biggest fish (90 lb class and new PB) crash on my bait about 100 yards out. With the long run home we left them still biting.

"Team Bio-hazard" is ready to roll. Marking your gear on these longer trips is a life saver.

Kyle saved my butt repeatedly on this trip. Including having to cut and re-tie my spectra twice on one fish during the battle!

I can't express to you how hard the crew worked. Thank you Pacific Voyager crew for making this year's trip another success one for the boys from 'Outcast Anglers' in NorCal.

Nice haul. Were you using live bait. Any suggestions on gear to bring?
Thanks

2 speed reels with 40# flouro was the ticket this year. I was using a Talica 2 with 400 yds of 65# spectra tied straight to a full spool of Seaguar (no top shot). That way I could still feel my sardine running, even way away from the boat. It's best to run a light drag until the fish has tired a bit and then crank it down once the rail is clear to bring your fish in. If another couple of guys were at color, I wouldn't get anywhere near them (to avoid tangles).

The fish processing part is a family event. This year we even had some friends from Kauai visiting and they were STOKED to get to eat all of the tuna that they wanted.:fing05:

We vacuum sealed and froze at least 20#'s of loins for making Poki throughout the year. Ya, that brings the kids all home more often for visits...:)

Congrats James on yet another PV Epic! Capt. Mark and crew are the best out there in their class, as evidenced by going the extra mile and putting you guys on some premium grade. I have to admit that I was bummed not being on this trip, but you know the story...

I hope to have a shot a few of those - we leave Sunday. Again, congratulations.

Canning your own tuna is so much better then the crap you buy in the store. We put jalapeņo or habanero in ours. Dam good tuna sandwiches. Love poke, and making sushi so the pictures make me really hungry. Great post. Congratulations.
