Went to Tomales about a month ago , first time skunk for halibut there in all of my halibut trips (12 trips over last 6 yrs.) . Talked to lots of guys on the water and at the ramp , same story - no fish . Even the locals only seeing 1 or 2 fish a day coming in on a better day Something strange going on , usually loaded with them in the summer . Sorry my report is not more current .

i'm moored in tomales and can confirm that it's been a horrible halibut season. i know several halibut fishermen from point reyes who usually pack a freezer for the winter that took only a couple for the year and mostly gave up by mid summer. i caught a 25lb halibut in may in about 15 minutes north of hog island on my way back from salmon fishing - i was convinced that a big season was coming.

usually coming back into tomales over the bar is a parking lot. haven't seen more than two rental boats there all season.
