Headed out yesterday near Stinson. Launched out of Berkeley about 730, dropped pots by 830 and headed to the farallons. Caught a few rockfish and headed back to check the pots. Ended up with easy limits for 4.

Re-bait the lots, drop them again and headed out again this morning. Pot raiders got us for a few but worked for limits for 2.

pot raiders.. didn't they get/confiscate a big cat last year for raiding pots?

Those are some nice looking crab. Crabbed out of Moss last week 2 days for easy limits for 4 with 7 pots in my buddy's string. All nice full clawed 6 3/4 to 7 inch crab. Finally bought my first pot of my own and it was the same as yours. I like the fact that they have ramps but the doors I added a piece of lead across since the opening seemed too big. The bait box I am going to add chicken wire since the squares seem too big and chovies and squid slip out easily. Sunday my cousin, his son's and another father and son left San Raphael at 9:30. 5 pots in at 11:30 and onto Sam's for lunch. After a 3 hour soak my pot had 2 keepers and the next 2 had 1 total with all of them having many rock crab. I guess we were in the rocky area. My cousins last 2 had 17 keepers for 19 total in 3 hours. It was our first time running our own gear but we were right around Point Bonita and most had legs or claws missing. I hope next time we go up North and find some good sand. Can't complain though we almost got 2 limits in a short soak. Our depth was 50-60 feet. Great job JB14 what depth would you recommend out of the gate and did you just look for flat bottom before you dropped?

This was my first time crabbing so I'm not an expert by any means. I was in 65-70' off Stinson. I just scoped out what appears to be a flat bottom on the plotter and then confirmed with sonar. I had some help and the crab tutorial on coastside was invaluable. Good luck on your next trip!

Cool thank you. Hopefully with commercial opening we find some open space. Seems like this is the first year Ina long while they have agreed on a price for their actual opener. Those guys have a tough job and they don't get enough from the buyers/market. Great looking crab.

I'm hoping that they don't just kill the crab fishing. I'm planning in setting the afternoon before turkey day and taking my girls out to get the pots the next morning. Hopefully there's room!!

What's getting the cod out of the gate. Got metal jigs, shrimp flies and going to bring squid.

All my fish came on Hex bars, even the large rockfish were nailing it. I C&R'd at least 15 other lings to get 2 keepers. Squid and shrimp flys worked for some, but nowhere as good as jigs.

I've got big bars in silver and pink. Will give it a try if I go. Thank you for the response.

Ill be dropping some pots off at Bonita Pt this weekend. Are there any good rockfish/lings nearby? I don't have great range on the old whaler but I'd love to get into a few. Otherwise I'll be sharkin' all day. Thoughts?

Just make sure you get the pots around the corner. Pulling pots at Pt Bonita can be bad news. Lots of traffic and lots of breakers there. Make sure you weight your line as well. If someone got that in their prop in that area it could be deadly.

As far as rockfish, those areas are super secret. personally I've fished Bonita cove and had some success but I don't have any honey holes.
