View Full Version : 8/28 Oyster Point Halibut Limits!

Friend of mine went out with another friend to oyster point. DOn't know exactly where but my guess is he drifted thru the updwellings East southeast of the marina. He didn't say what he was using but he was probably drifting shiners. Came back with 3 fish each and said they were throwing a lot of them back. Got to try some in beer batter, man that is good. ;D Too bad i wasnt there.

I think that is the first I have read this year of anyone limiting out on hali's.
Tell your buddy congrats....
I havent even seen one yet this year. :-[

i got my fist limit of halis in july at alctrtraz! 19# to 26 inches, but i agree its been a slow flattie year.

I got some more details out of him. Turns out he was drifting dead chovies, out of all things. All fish were in 18"-28" range. Also, when they first got out there (7am), all they were catching were sharks (none were legal) and rays. But suddenly they got a halibut on and thats all they caught from then on. Bite died after a few hours. Probably becuase of the tides. They were fishing the updwelling.

I could've sworn that the halibut minimum size was 22 inches. I could be wrong, can someone else chime in here?

and stary flounder has no size limit...

Good to know that they are still out there. Was he fishing close to the sierra pt pier or closer to oyster pt pier?

He was closer to the oyster point marina.
