hey i want to catch barracuda from venice pier C.A....
someone told me to put sizw 1/0 live bait hook with a short wire leader(30 lbs test) on 25 lbs. test line with no weight... put any small live bait on there and cast it out,, leave drag loose till the fish swims down and close..

Is THIS A GOOD WAY??

Hey Chubz....Welcome to the boards.
I have read a lot of reports on Venice Peir on Pierfishing.com

live bait will work for the piet and you can rig
it the same as as you would for fishing for salmon.
tie a wieght to the end of your line and cast as far
as you can throw it out, then clip a large swivel onto
the line out so it can slide on it and just below the
swivel attach the a large bobber you can see to that will
be a 6/10' leader with the bait at the end...
clip this on the main line and let slide out to the water
and wait for mr toothy to get it.....
works with dead bait too.....goood luck

I would jump on a 3/4 or 1/2 day boat out of santa monica,or L.A. they will put you on a barry . you could try on a pier but you will have a tuff time getting it up.with out a pier net. its pretty hard to catch anything besides mackeral, lizard fish ,and tom cod.off of all those piers down there. :P

I've not heard of them being caught from a pier. We caught them trolling in Santa Barbara channel years and years and years ago. ;D Ugh... that makes me sound and feel really old.
