Doug and I had been planning on hitting a lake we have been putting off for quite some time. With the heavy rains and a chance of mud slides due to the wild fires we recently suffered, we opted for one of our favorite trout lakes. So its off to Melones.

So after an email from RideNfish saying "no rain tomorrow" oh how wrong he was this time :) it was more like "no break in the rain tomorrow". Since I didn't dig my rain gear out of the shed, my only option was taking my daughters pancho. Not a big deal except for it too small, hot pink, and has winged hearts, and says Rock Diva on it :bellyemoticon5zi:

Now to the fishing. We arrive a little after 6am. Holy sheep the lake is LLLLOOOOOWWWW. Made the hike to one our favorite spots and its not even there, lol. So we cruise around and find some tasty looking water. Before I can even set my extra rods down I hear Dougs reels screaming and him giggling, fish on. I was worried about the first cast first fish curse. I take a pic for him and he releases the fish. Before I can pick my pole up off the ground he's hooked up again :)

Here is one of Doug's first fish.

I think Doug managed 4 hook up and 2 landed in the first 10mins. I couldn't buy a bite in that spot. Me on the other hand could buy a bite, same lure same presentation. So we decide to kick mud and see if we can't find a better spot. We slipped and sloshed all around.

We finally get into a several more in a small area. Fish were feeling frisky pulling drag and some even made leaps and tail walked.

On our way out we hit glory hole point and put a bait rod out and tossed lures. The rain began to pound us and neither one of us had proper rain gear with us. My hoodie was soaked completely. Probably weighed 6lb. when I took it of. So we called it a day. Not a killing but we did get some :) found tons of flashers, dodgers, and all the stuff the trollers lose going over Glory hole point at higher water :)

Thanks for the report Marv.

Sounds like a fun adventure, even if you guys were soaked. I've never made my way down to Melones, sounds like I may have to go down and explore it.

Good work out there!

Was a good time for sure. To early for the good bank fishing still but we wanted to five it a try. The fish I did catch were strong and healthy from eating all of those shad. The poncho cracked me up but so much for a stealth presentation. haha

Will wait couple or few weeks and try again.

So many things come to mind that I don’t know where to begin.

First, those are good looking fish. Not huge but they're fat and solid. I love those sharp tails. It’s disappointing when you catch a nice fish and it has a beat up, rounded tail from the hatchery. I’d rather catch a few little footballs than bigger stockers – nice job.

Second, the picture of Marv is just awesome. The pink slicker by itself is cute but it’s the lollipop that puts it over the top. It says “I’m fun, sexy, and sassy.”

Third, I have to tip my hat to Marv. Any aspiring model would kill to have your natural abilities. The outfit, the accessories, the pose, the flirty smile. It’s awesome. There’s no doubt in my mind that some guy in Thailand is already using this picture for his dating profile to meet younger men.

Fourth, let’s not forget about Doug – the photographer. I mean, look at what he had to work with. Rainy weather and….well….Marv. Yeah….Marv. I’m convinced the Doug could take a picture of dog crap and make it look like a petite chocolate cupcake. The man is a miracle worker with the camera. Did I mention he was taking pics of Marv?

Fifth, I want to sincerely thank the two of you for all of the great posts you do. The great pictures, and most of all, not sharing the other pictures the two of you take…..when you’re together….alone….in the woods.

Last but not least, I think you guys have an awesome friendship and I respect that. I thought it was cool when you said you get together every couple of months to watch “A River Runs Through It”, but it worried me when you said it’s a double feature with “Deliverance”. I appreciate the invites but banjos just aren’t my thing, I prefer fish tacos.

Funny stuff Mr Yosemite!

Well written.

You just need to go fishing with me. I know we try to cross paths and it's only happened once but let's get a trout trip out there. I want to challenge my photography skills as you say. Taking a photo of you would really challenge my, "take a picture of dog crap and make it look like a petite chocolate cupcake." abilities. bwahaha

Funny stuff Jason I hope we can chase some trout before long.

Cheers,

I bet those fish you did catch were better then most caught on a sunny warm day, you had to just park and cast. That is a lake on the list to hit.

Thank you, thank you. It seemed funny in my head but I'm beyond tired today. I'm glad I amused someone besides myself!

In honor of Marv's return to the forum, I had to revisit my favorite thread of all time. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
