Congrats! What a great fish.

Curious about the "non pilot peak" though? What does that mean, unclipped? maybe it's from a wild spawning?

Best,

Most excellent Prettyman. That is a real beast for a Summit Lake fish. Beautiful color. I'll buy you a beer next time I see you.

Best,

"In the late 1970s, a fish biologist identified what he thought were surviving specimens of the vanished Pyramid Lake strain of Lahontan cutthroat in a small creek near a 10,000-foot mountain on the border of Nevada and Utah called Pilot Peak. A Utah man used buckets to stock the rugged stream with trout in the early 1900s, but made no record, federal biologists say. Geneticists recently compared cutthroats from the Pilot Peak stream with mounts of giant Pyramid Lake trout and discovered an exact DNA match." ~http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/24/us/lahontan-cutthroat-trout-make-a-comeback.html?_r=0

Hope this helps, great article I stole the quote from

Thanks for the article, RNP!

It's way cool how the agencies found that strain of fish to reintroduce to the lake! I guess that one pictured by the OP is from the Summit Lake stock like CC mentioned? Maybe different body coloration, build, clipped or not, and so on? I'm not familiar with the trout there at all, but they are fascinating!

Thanks guys... Took some time and but it came together... Lymans lure draggin bottom finally pays off big... Didn't put up the most epic of battles but HEAVY headshakes had me on edge till it hit the net... A 22 pounder was weighed in just before I got to Crosby's as well.... Not a lot of numbers right now but the fish have been big... Go get em!

Nice! Please don't tell me you get a free drink token with a double digit. I like to catch & release but if they will pour me a drink that might be a hard decision. haha

Nice looking fish! Can't wait to get my first double digit fish out there! Maybe this next spring fest it will happen. Looking foward to it. Can't believe all these big fish that come out of there every year and there still in there! Thanks for sharing.

The strain maintained by the tribe at Pyramid originally came from Summit Lake in Northern Nevada. They are not the original strain for Pyramid. The tribe rears and stocks around a million fish per year from the hatchery at Suttcliffe. The Pilot Peak fish are raised in the LNFHC in Gardnerville, Nv. Some of the Pilot Peak fish stocked in Pyramid have floy tags. All have their adipose fin clipped. HTH
