I haven't heard many great reports from the boaters at Amador. So that only made me want to go even more today! I picked up my buddy Gary at 6am and we were at Amador by 7am. I made the long trek down to the launch. That was when I realized that I wish I had a bigger vehicle! My small arse SUV wasn't long enough to get the boat off the trailer. Good thing I though ahead I brought my freaking waders! Once in the water we set out our spread of grubs and trout worms and went to work.

Nothing for our pass across the dam and spillway. It wasn't until I went across the RV cove that my pearl grub on a side planer went off. After a good fight I boated a cookie cutter 1.8lb trout and the skunk is gone! I decided to dump the trout worms and speed up to 1.4mph and run grubs and a minnow style bait that runs great at slow speeds. I make the turn into big bay to work the tree lines and BOOM! My buddies gold power shad gets blown up and it's fish on! Right as I net his fish my fire tiger lure gets destroyed and we have a double! Just like that we have 3 in the box.

While making this pass I notice a huge bait 25ft down and there were a bunch of arches working it. We circled back and went through again and sure as heck his power shad gets bit again. Then of course my fire tiger goes off. I net his fish and as mine gets close I notice it a HUGE crappie! I slid the net under a fat arse 17.5 inch 2.63lb crappie! This is a PB for me

We proceed to work this same area for 3 hours with many doubles and singles. All fish came on the gold power shad, my fire tiger lure and also purple lure. Sorry for blacking out the lure.

We hit the fish hard for 15 to the boat with several lost. All fish were all cookie cutters from 1.77 to 2.5lbs. I did lose a pig that I couldn't stop from getting into the trees. He hit a 4inch purple worm and was well over 7lbs. He tried to jump twice but his fat ass couldn't get out of the water. I buttoned down the drag when he was dancing by the flooded trees and I pulled the hook!

We tried going back and finding the shad but they were of course gone so we couldn't find the crappie again.

here are the 9 trout we caught and the shad from the crappie.

After going over that bait ball you didn't stay put? Think about all those slabs you could have caught  Nice report and pictures! I haven't been to Amador in a few years since I moved away. I use to live about 30mins from the lake. I will be making a few trips this year though.

I was at amador yesterday as well. They planted yesterday. I caught 3 and my buddy caught 8. I was using a rapala he was using a rattle trap. We caught a tagged fish and won a free day use as well. I'll be there again tomorrow and, little 14ft kalamath if you want to say hi!

If you don't mind, what size and rattle trap color? I have used them for trout before but not much luck yet. I have used the real tiny ones that are about 1.5" long.
Thanks,
