I want to invite you all to post anything related to Fish and Science to this forum. Since the Fish Sniffer gave lots to me, I wanted to give a little bit back to you all.

I'm a scientist at UC, Davis working on fish genetics. Mostly Salmon and steelhead, but lots of other animals as well. I thought maybe myself and my colleagues could give a little insight into the science of fish research by opening this section up on the Fish Sniffer. There are lots of talented and dedicated people that are making a difference in understanding our fish at UCD. Maybe this will bomb, or maybe it will be really cool. We'll see. Note that I don't know anything about fish regulations or rules, so we can't help you with that unless it relates to science that we can look into, or perhaps Fish and Wildlife can respond to.

If you have news stories to share that deal with fisheries science, or questions about it, you're more than welcome to post them here. Hopefully, we'll have some guests come on and post about various issues as time goes on as well. Also, I'll give you all some updates about new fisheries research going on at UC and in the literature as well. I don't think there is any other forum on the West coast that has tried this out, so I'm happy to be a part of it.

If you want to get answers about things dealing with Fish science you can either post up here on a new thread and maybe sniffer members, myself, or my colleagues will respond, or send me a PM here, or send email to ucd.fisheries@gmail.com (UC is hesitant to give me an email address for this so far...). I hope we can do some Questions and Answers types of posts going forward if you guys are interested in that too. Not that you can't find the answers yourselves, but that we have access to journals and research that I would like to make accessible to you guys.

Anyway, thanks!

Nice! My brother works for Fish Bio and I know he always has interesting stuff he learns and tells me about. I'll have to get some more information from him and post it here. Here is the website for anyone who is interested FISHBIO: Fisheries research, monitoring, and conservation (http://fishbio.com/)
