View Full Version : ICR Again - Why Not?

ICR was red hot yesterday. With the uncertainty of Eastern Sierra winter weather the lake could be snowed in and/or frozen next week. Got to fish it once again before things change.

Picked up Nighthawk and met up with Dave at Casa Jetspray. We arrived at ICR just before 0830. The temps were in the low 40s with overcast skies and zero wind. We were hoping that the fishing would be as good as it was yesterday. It was even better. We fished the east shore for 4 hours and got 41 trout between us. All fish came on orange or chart. Gulp. Again it was a mix of bows and LCT to over 3#. These fish are in excellent shape. The LCT are lean and strong and the bows as fat as footballs and willing jump towards the sky. Nice fishing with you again Tom. Thanks for the ride Dave. A wonderful winter day.

Looks like you had a great day! I was there on Saturday and caught 7 between 2:00-5:30. The amazing thing to me is there was only about 70yd of un-frozen water along the eastern shore and in your pics two days later it looks mostly melted! I'll post a report later. How much did you noticed the ice melt between the two days?

Between the two days the ice on the dam went away. Last night the temps were above freezing for the first time in two months. Most of the ice should be gone by the weekend unless it gets cold again.

I had a great day, but I did not have enough time. When I was baiting one the other would take off. When I was reeling in the other rod would hit, or when I was re-tying a setup the other rod was hit. Just about every cast something hit, it was just crazy. I went through two bottles of Gulp that I had opened in the morning, I'm just sayin':dancingorange:.:dancingorange::dancingorang e::dancingorange:.:dancingorange::biggrin:......Je tspray

I was going to go out and try it today. I am gonna go ahead and say it is going to close up again. Too windy to try to cast into.

The wind is howling here in the Carson Valley. It is worse up at ICR. Don't think it will refreeze but expected snow along the access roads may be a problem.

It actually calmed down out here in Fish Springs a bit. I am stuck until two. If it calms down a bit I may try it.

It would take a ton of that beer you drink to put me high enough to eat Gulp on a ritz cracker of any flavor. Next time I see you I am willing to watch you do it though:zzz5jl:........Jetspray

Back in the stoneage when I was a kid the best trout bait was Velveeta Cheese. Never never went fishing without Ritz Crackers.:lolk:

Reminds me of my grandfather's original powerbait... Velveeta cheese mixed and smashed with pautzkie salmon eggs..

I used to make something similar to that with corn meal added in to make the cheese stick. Cheese was the blue box American Cheese (they don't make it anymore). I added garlic salt to the mix as well.:vrolijk_1:......Jetspray

So Robert I know we have talked about this a lot together, I hope to see some browns this year come out "and go back" at ICR but it's looking dismal :/

From all of what I know they are not stocking anything but Triploids in the lake and some LCT. That is most of what we caught there that day. The LCT's are skinny but very fisty, and so were the LCT. Richard and I might take another trip over, I have 4 x 4 and it can go easy.:bananatiedie::a-fish:.....Jetspray

Yes they are not stocking them again in ICR, And im not sure if that will ever change. I need to get out there with you and Richard sometime so we can reminisce about the browns that once resided in Indian ;)
