With the nice weather, lack of snow, and my friend taking his merry time getting his boat registered, I decided last Saturday was a perfect day to drive down to Markleeville/Woodfords/Hope Valley area. My initial plan was to see if I could possibly make it to Blue Lake with the lack of snow. I've never been there and wanted to check out the drive in my new 4Runner. I scrapped that plan when I crested the ridge at ICR and saw it appeared to be frozen. With that being the case I decided heading to Blue Lake would be a waste of time, and instead tested out my 4Runner Trail's abilities on a side trail. After being quite impressed, I decided I at least had to drive down the dam to check it out. To my surprise, there was about 70yds on the eastern shore clear of ice, with a number of other anglers out there. I drove down to the point closest to the dam and starting soaking pink sparkle Power Eggs, while trying a variety of lures. In the meantime, the guys next too me hooked up twice with Powerbait. At that point I switched my lure pole to garlic Powerbait. While rigging the garlic PB, I caught my first and only on Power Eggs. It was a nice plump Rainbow full of eggs. From that point on, it was fish after fish on the Garlic PB for a total of 6. I ended up landing 7, 5 being LCT's, all on Garlic PB. I also caught a small planter bow, but it was fun to catch all the LCT's and see them healthy. The other nice thing about the LCT's, I just so happened to hook all of them in the lip for easy C&R. All said it was a great afternoon, and judging from the Captain's post the ice continues to clear and the fishing remained hot! Can't say about now though, that area likely got at least in foot in the recent storm.

I'm agree and I'm curious to see how they'll grow compared to Pyramid fish.

Edit: anyone have comments as to the white tips on the LCT's fins? I know it's common on adolescent rainbows...

Fish close to the bottom with short leaders and small hooks, they are feeding on snails & leeches. BTW tips could be from the pens......Jetspray

No snow No rain , I fear the fishing pressure will take its toll on it as all the other local spots are lacking sufficient water.

Nice going man, toyota pride!! Those cutts are definitely growing good in that lake. I hate to agree but the fishing pressure is going to be kinda nutty everywhere that has access and fish :/ ... Everyone just play nice ;) ... Toyota Trout Stalkers!

With the roads and lake covered with 2 feet of snow and Temps at night back in the single digits I suspect that ICR might freeze again. The lake has been absolutely full of fish for the last year or so. The lake is in the boonies and is mostly fished by locals from Western Nevada, Alpine County and South Tahoe. The California hordes don't get here.

Yet I've seen a dude who spoke broken English/Chinese accent Repeatedly go in and out of his RV all day harvesting trout there! One float tuber almost beat his a$$! I called the tip on him but I assume he bailed after the tuber got in his face.

Probably a local from South Lake. I think I've seen the guy. On Tuesday the Warden was parked up in the trees watching. He stayed up there for a couple of hours but never came down.

Yeah who knows. Too bad ICR hasn't been what it used to be, but we can hope

I went again yesterday and only caught small planter bows. I had to fish further from the dam due to the snow. All mine were 11-12" this time & none on garlic pb. All caught on chart power eggs. I also lost a brand new Kastmaster on the first cast, so I think I'm over using lures from shore. I brought my waders with the intent of doing some streamer fishing with my fly rod, but with the snow and 25 degree temps I decided against it.

If you ain't losing lures at ICR you ain'r fishing right. Very hard on Kastmasters. Pretty picure. Might try it again later in the week.
