Went out at 6:30 today set up on a point by the dam . I had garlic pb on one pole the other had power eggs (white) looked over at my son and sure enough he already has one pole in the water and he's throwing the ghost minnow on the other so I asked him you want a bobber to take up the slack in the line for your bait pole he says no I already have a clear one on I said huh then I realized he's fishing on top not bottom and its pretty windy blowing in off the point so I always bring a spare rod setup I tell him no here take this rod put on yellow power eggs and fish the bottom within 10 minutes he gets a fish and I'm like yes , another 20 minutes he gets another and I'm like ok I should be getting at least a bite anytime soon , 5 minutes later sure as chit he gets another so I tell him ok if you catch one more I'm going to yellow too . 30 or 40 minutes latter he's got another and I'm like way happy for him but I'm like wow skunk a roo for me its only 8:50 and he's got 4 then it dies down and the wind picks up and man does it pick up gusting around 20 - 25 mph . We give it a little time and nothing he gets one more bite but it spits it now Ive got yellow eggs on one pole and went thru purple , peach , spring green, green , garlic , white & chart , orange , pink power bait on the other and nada nothing its windy I'm cold so I get up switch poles and start throwing a gold kastmaster (thanks PG ) second cast bam fish short hits it about 20 more casts and bam another hit that bends the rod then nothing , 20 minutes later still throwing it so I sit down on some rocks and let the rod do the work about 5 casts later I'm rewarded with a chunky 2 pounder this one holds and bam no skunk a roo , the son had all the fun and this made a very poor day worthwhile , I just hate the wind more than rain its like the fish got turned off too . Anyway heres your porn for what its worth got some pics of water clarity and boat launch its not that bad I was surprised . Tightlines BF

Great job! I think...no, I know, I'd have switched to the yellow as soon as he hooked the second on it. Amador seems to trend that way. Usually one or two "hot" colors and as soon as you find one load all the rods with it or miss the bite. Water level looks a lot better than a few weeks ago and should help draw a bigger crowd to the second stop of the NorCal Trout Anglers Challenge March 15th

Good to see you got out with your son and had a good time:bananachaga:! That wind can ruin a good time, I won't fish in the wind anymore. The water level is rising, that's good. How was the clarity/debris?

Minimal debris clarity good I was surprised so I started looking at the old water line and even if it rained really really hard it did not look like it would turn chocolate . I would say clarity 3 feet or more I took a run over to the darn to throw the kastmaster while son was cleaning the fish and I could see rocks on the bottom 3 or 4 feet out . Tightlines BF

Good job and good times. Like RNP I would of changed at least one pole on his second fish. RNP and I had luck on orange when we went in late Jan. But I'm glad you started casting metal. Way more fun to get a fish that way as opposed to sitting in a holder, at least for me.

BigFin, last time I was there, I must have had 10-15 hits on the KM that didn't stick! I even checked the hook to make sure it was sharp. One thing about throwing lures at Amador, don't give up until it's on shore, I've had those trout hit lures 3-4 feet from shore!!!!!!:fishing5xd:

Yeah never really ever owned a gold KM always threw silver/blue and white/orange but hey the gold gets lots of hits. Speaking of the 3-4 feet out hit had one do it today on hot steel rapala love it when they do that , today was pretty dam good at the dam if you go hit it early 6am there was lots of surface action around the dock areas and they are back on white and yes all poles then went to white left at 11 with limit nothin big but lost a monster on a nightcrawler/clear bubble combo damn thing just exploded it . Thanks again for the tips Tightlines Bf

BigFin, how was the weather, especially the wind? I wanted to throw a rapala last time I was there, but there was so much crap in the water, it would only get hung-up in it. Was it slippery, did you fish off the rocks? What about the water level, coming up any? Glad you got out and did well, I'm hoping to get there sometime this week, mostly depends on weather and "honey-do's":unfair5zy:!
