View Full Version : Amador, Two girls one boat. 3-15-14

Well It's done! Nobody was maimed and the boat made it home in one piece as well. I have fished many times alone but I either fish from shore or rent a boat. I had planned many times to take the boat out solo but until today it never actually happened. Don't know why I was so nervous. Anyways,
Up at 3:30 and ready to go by five.
Mike helped me hook the trailer up to the truck and I was off. Sorry you had work today Mikey.
Made it to the lake in a little over an hour and a half. Petra was there waiting for me. Still dark, but by the time we got through the fifteen or so boats ahead of us it was light out.
Launched like a pro. Then headed out to our Jackson Creek spot. (Taken). Then to our other spot on the point near the island. (Taken). So we skirted around the corner of it and bait fished for a while with no action except for the otter splashing around our boat.
Saw some trollers catching so monkey see monkey do and we started top lining with Wooly buggers. Near the dam Petra gets first fish. Nice 17" in her bag it goes. Pic later in the post.

After a while I decided to down rig. 10 - 30 ft down. This time using Gvf lures and dodgers. In front of the dam I hook up and catch maybe the ugliest trout I have ever caught. Hook jaw and all 16" of him were beat to heck. still it's a tournament so no catch and release.
Snagged after that and lost the whole set up.

Later it's Petra's turn and she hooks up on another Gvf lure. This time a beautiful full finned 19". She worked him in perfectly and tired him out. Best fish of the day for us. Tried some more bait fishing and then trolling until about 2:30.
My only mishap today was when we decided to troll around the tiny island and up towards the dam when all of a sudden the trolling motor wouldn't work. Hmmm whats up? Petra looks over and says "Were in like 6" of water lol" We were way way off shore too.
Oh well we pushed ourselves off with the net and won't be going back there again.

The days shadows were starting to grow long. We only had time to tie off to the docks before weigh in. So up the long hill and to the scales. Petra's fish, two and a half lbs got her 23rd place I believe. My ugly duckling was 1.14 and didn't even place. lol. All agreed that my fish probably was a mercy kill on it's part. Just nasty. OMG too funny!

So, It was super nice to meet so many of the people I talk to on the boards. Red Neck punk and his wife Sporty Girl, Paytens Papa (Mark) and his friend Troy. Also Cal from the Sniffer and quite a few more. Sorry if I can't remember all the names.

We stayed for some awesome french fries and some Iced tea and then Petra helped me pick up the boat and get her ready for the long drive home. It went without a problem. Although when I got home our license plate on the trailer was gone. But to be fair it had been hanging on by only one screw.
So a great day it was.
Mike was proud of me, Petra was proud of me and most important.... I WAS PROUD OF ME!!!!!
At home now with a pretty good sunburn but happy that all went fine. Thanks for all the people who cheered me on and told me I could do it! Invaluable! Especially Petra for being right there for any help I needed!
Till my next adventure then.....
Happy fishing!

Awesome post, kristy!

Glad you girls had a great time, got into fish, and meet Redneck and Sportygirl. Bummer about the license plate failure, but it could have been worse.

Take care,

Captain Compassion

The winner was 7.51lbs. Unlike San Pablo, you had to be over 2.03lbs to qualify top 50.

Awesome job girls. Nothing wrong with a good day of fishing with friends.

awesome your launch and day went well, sorry you didn't place. I caught a really ugly one like that before too... Its body felt different too, really soft and mushy feeling... My day wasn't any better. At about 830 I got my first fish, it was an average size fish for amador. It messed its self up pretty good fighting with the rapala in its mouth so I put it on the stringer and thought I would get more... NOPE... I went to the back left past the octopus and shark and banked it back there for a while. Banking it I caught the smallest trout I've ever seen there. Got it in the net and it spit the hook. It wasn't hurt at all so I let it go. I talked to one of the guys that plants them and he said they let out a tank of smaller ones last week as they were having problems with the tank. My buddy didn't catch any fish... Thought about not taking my fish to the scale as it was just an average amador trout but went up anyways. To my surprise I got 46 or 47th... YAY... lol No one at amador recognized me with out my hair, they all got a good laugh from it... I'm the bald one in the blue shirt...

ej, wow, would have said hello to you if I knew it was you! Actually, we talked a little as we passed, we had a rental boat. Crossed paths several times, oh well, next time.:angling:

Yeah josh you should have come up. Without your lovely locks it would be hard to know it was you lol. Maybe if I ever want to go incognito I will cut off all my hair lol. About that fish, Yes it was all soft and slimy. That's the third one of them I have caught at Amador. Not sure if I will smoke it or make it into cat food.

Thanks for the great report Kristy. Lots of great pics as always. You and Petra gave it your all and had a good time. The derbies can be tough, but you guys did great. Congrats! FPR :angling: Dale

Its going into spawn mode. Meat is not good at this point- imo. If the cat will eat it give it to him/her
