I know someone is catching them on the sac. I read reports from last year not too much later in the year then now of fish being caught. Out at Freeport last Saturday fishing for Striper and saw a few people casting darts. Supposedly a couple were caught in the port also in the last week????

I can confirm shad out off the yolo rockwall just downriver of clarksburg. Only a matter of time before the old vietnamese man on a jetski loaded with shad gear shows up. Then you will know they're in thick.

True that. Chartrus white. Orange white pink white best colors I have used at Freeport. Pink white usually did the trick have fun boys cast away and the shad to slay.

Perfect striper bait!!! Other than that, yes the shad are here...not thick enough yet but it's very catch-able.

Just curious if this low, warm water in the American is making the shad move up early? Wanted to take my son out from the bank tomorrow (Friday - Howe/Watt area hopefully) if the fish are in the system. I saw shad at Verona, so figured they'd be somewhere in the American as well. Also, with the super low flow and low level, how will this affect the fishing? I'm usually a Sac river shad boat guy, so the American from the bank is pretty new to me. Hoping to change that this season. Any heads up would be great!

The A wasn't all that great last season..... low warm water will bring'em up..... spawn.... and bye bye. They get up to verona fast every year that I've fished it..... Freeport would be slow and the upper river would be on fire. Guess they like to hang out at the spawning grounds for awhile
