Stockerfest is the one day of the year where we pay tribute to the trout hatchery workers, both public and private, who keep our lakes and streams full of fighting and tasty trout.

Jetspray and I went up Wednesday afternoon for a pre fest scout of the W. Carson. We checked all the usual spots and didn't see one trout. The weather was chilly with periods of rain. We hung around awhile at the 89 bridge waiting for something to happen. No luck. We headed back down to the Carson Valley on 88 and just before the Nevada border we passed the stocking truck heading up to the river. Alpine County started stocking at 1345. Dave and fished awhile at the Hwy 89 Bridge and got 12 fish before a cold persistent rain drove us off the water. Plans were made for Stockerfest Thursday.

Jetspray and I started off the day at 0700 at Crystal Springs just west of Woodsfords. Joining us at different times were Atavuss, Untalan1, Nighthawk and his buddy Alan. The weather was a little cloudy and cold. Places fished were Crystal Springs, 89 Bridge, White Bridge and the bridge at Woodsfords. Our group got around 30 fish with some nice ones to near 4#. Tom and Alan went on up to the E. Carson later in the day. Perhaps he will let us know how they did. When Dave and I left the DFW had yet to stock on the river. Perhaps the bad weather gave them some problems. Dave, Efren, Tom, Alan it was nice fishing with you guys. Ed it was nice to see you back up in the high country. Happy Stockerfest all.

Great job guys. We will be loading the rivers with more and more fish from here on out for the summer. Thank you to the State stocking program as they have been very generous in the Alpine county waters this year. Should be a great weekend of fishing. HOpe everyone gets out here and enjoys Alpine Counties waters. We will be having our kids fishing day on June 7th at 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. This is a free event put on by the Alpine County Fish and Game commission. There will be hot dogs and snacks for everyone. We will be having a raffle and the stocking truck will make a showing and dump a load of fish right in front of the kids. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message.

This and the Kids derby in Gardnerville are must see events. Love it when the truck arrives at ICR and the kids' eyes all light up. See you up there.

Enjoyed fishing with you, for a couple of days, and watching Ed entice a nice sized fish that was a monster for sure. Rain or no rain it was all good:fish_jumps:..........Jetspray

Nice pics and report. I got the pleasure to meet Ed a couple weeks ago when we chased some striper ("stiper" NOT Stippers LOL). Nice dude.

I need to get to some high country fishing. Maybe next week on the bike.

Looks like fun. Thanks for the report. The Hwy 89 bridge stocking always makes me think about how some people say literally "throwing" a fish back can be life-threatening to the the fish, yet here we have our state's fisheries biologists blasting trout out of a truck from 15ft above and 99% of them survive...

It's a great pastime, it is a way to pass the time, 99% of the time it is catch and release only, but sometimes our wives want a fish dinner or two........Jetspray

Went up to the Carson Sunday. Four of us caught a lot each. Over twenty each. Stopped counting after a while. All released. We were using barbless artificials. Some of the fish appeared to be native with the white fin tips and no clipped fin and we got a couple german browns too. Didn't take pics cause my phone was dead. Lots of fish just no big ones.

One of my favorite spots to just sit and watch. You expect to see Hobbits and elves.

Is this an alpine county planter or a native? We caught a bunch of em and my buddy sent me a pic of one he caught after I had went home. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/28/y4ebasyv.jpg

They fight hard and bite way different then the hazel ave fish. They don't just sit there and swallow it. It's like small grab and drops making for almost 100% mouth hooks. The mouths were much tougher as well. Was going barbless too. When I caught the first one I thought I had a fish maybe twice that size.

I believe the the fish is a DFW triploid planter rainbow. I've seen more than a few that have these kinds of spots. The Alpine fish are Cutthroat/Steelhead/Kamloops (Donaldsons). Less spots and they have a little color on the jaw like cutts.

Wow they are doing a really nice job with those then. They are like a totally different fish. We caught fish at camp sacramento that had a clipped fin, barely any spots and they were not anywhere near as strong pound for pound. Wonder what the deal with that is?
