Untalan1, in town for his annual birthday trip, picked me up at the North Minden staging at 0630 and we headed west on 88. We checked various spots along the W. Carson but didn't many fish. We decided to head over Carson and give Caples Lake a try. The morning was comfortably cool with zero wind with the occasional trout making their mark on the surface. We fished the corner of the dam and over near the resort. The fishing was not red hot but we did manage 7 fish on Kastmasters. We headed back east with a stop for a look at Woods Lake. Efren had never been here. If you go there bring the Off. Next we stopped at Red for a few casts and a little lunch. Red is very green right now. In the afternoon the Alpine County Department of Fish and Game made a stock on both forks of the Carson. Efren and I sampled the fish quality at the 89 bridge and were impressed adding 25 fish to our count. Things look good for the holiday weekend. Fish in the lakes and rivers. Warm but not hot up high. Go. Thanks for giving me a ride Efren. Enjoy tomorrow.

It is very seldom that you get days that are dead calm up there.................
had to e nice to be able to cast and not fight the wind.

Poor old Red Lake........... looking like pea soup with all the others being
crystal clear. At one time it was my favorite pond to fish up there.

Thanks for the post and great pictures.

Brakes my heart as well. It was a lake I fished perhaps 20 times a year. Lots of hungry brookies with the occasional nice LCT. While fishing up there with Efren I did see something I never saw before. An older angler fishing off the dam actually caught a rainbow trout.

In December of 2007 at Red with the ice closing in all around me I caught a 25 inch LCT. What a surprise.
