Great day on the Sac river with my buddy, drtyserb. We launched out of Elkhorn on the Yolo side with no problems. Ramp was good and dock in usable condition. We motored up past the Feather river confluence to anchor up.

Nice sun after the fog burned off, not too much debris floating down anymore + a few beers = good times!

We had the river to ourselves, which seemed odd with the most excellent conditions.

We had one solid takedown that didn't stick, but based on recent reports and the jumpers we saw, they are already up the Sac river past Verona.

Saw several groups and families getting settled in for a night's fishing on Garden highway while coming back. Good luck!

Couple of pics for ya...

The spread:

Really cool with the high water we could see over the levees:

Yolo side:

Never saw the regular holes so deep before!

How'd you know?

Must be the standard river bait! I'm kinda new to sturgies but I learned a lot today.

I saw a few pics of small shakers from down in Freeport/Hood today as well as a few second hand reports from the Sacramento Fishing page on faceobook, but honestly, a lot of the reports on there are rife with BS.

Regardless of the lack of fish, looks like a nice day on the water nonetheless!

you saw them jumping but did you mark many? And if so, were they hanging or feeding? Seems a bit early but with the higher muddy water it may be good pickins

Best,
There's a tub of them in the picture haha... old timers added them to any bait this time of year...(high and muddy) eel/crawler... ghost/crawler... etc...

How much lead did you have to use?

There's a ton of em being caught at KL already so there here for sure

Really hard for me to read the marks, RNP. I know it is still early in the run for them, but there have been some caught in the past several weeks.

We saw football-shaped things and longer marks under us. Not sure what they represented though. Fish? logs? other debris, I don't really know.

Perhaps drty will chime in with his greater experience.

What!! No roe, Sean? I love the eel/worm combo. Caught my PB on it in 2010.

I've soaked your roe once for no love, but I'm still working it. I'll return to the MBF after the holidays.

Merry Christmas to all anglers, but especially to the sturgeon hunters! It is now OUR season!!
