When was the on line version of the Fishsniffer founded? And did it include the forums section when it first came on line?

Just curious how old this website is.

If you look at the members list the first login was the Forum Admin in April of 2003.

That was the date when the current graphical form of the website was established. It was around for several years before that. It was like the wild west back then. ;)

My first articles for this website were published in 2000-

Well what got my interest was I read a couple of articles on the Baja fishing reports page that were written in 1998 and 1999. So I just got to thinking how long it had been in existence. I have heard the previous version was like the "wild, wild, west," and that is why some other web sites became into existence. I heard it shut down for awhile while reorganizing.

A funny turn of events. They came into being because the Sniffer was an unsafe place to play. I guess you try to learn from your past. ;)

The wild wild west aspect had to do with trying to get a handle on the forums. We had mistakenly assumed that everyone would be reasonably well behaved posting, but that didn't turn out to be the case.

We've never really shut down, nor reorganized... still the same folks here.

The website was first opened in 1996 or 97.

They kept the old text version of the boards going for a few months after the graphical version was implemented in April, 2003. That was to allow kinks to be worked out and for people to get "used to" the newer format. Everyone had to re-register for the new version, which was moderated from the get go.

More interesting than the beginning of the website was the beginning of the print edition...Allen Bonslett's (Chief Sniffer) dad Hal and mom Winnie (who still comes to the office everyday) started the magazine on thier kitchen table back in the middle 80's...Who does that? You can't start a magazine that way...but they did...Now it is the biggest fishing magazine on the West Coast and the website is a branch of what they originally started....Cal Kellogg
