So what is cosidered a competing site?

I want to play by the rules and avoid posts including references to what are considered competing sites.

Competing web sites are those that include a fishing forum.

Thanks. *I will look around when visiting other sites to do research to be sure they do not have a fishing forum before including a link in a post.

Can you explain the reason that we can't post about "competing" web sites? I just don't understand.

The rule from the Sniffer Admins is no links to or discussions about other fishing web sites which contain a fishing forum. The rule works to eliminate 4 to 5 attempts at advertising new fishing forums each day. Without the rule this site would be overrun with people trying to put info out about their websites.

The Sniffer can't vouch for or verify the quality and content of each of these sites and the moderators are volunteers, most with computers susceptible to viruses that don't want to have to check each and every website that would be listed. A lot of the spam we receive is for fake fishing websites that are really portals for Trojan Horses and Porn. Quite a few sites are not PG rated and are not compatible with the Sniffer Standards our members have come to expect.

Another obvious reason is advertisers buy space based upon hit counts. Hot links to other sites reduce the number of hits any one site receives. This advertising or sponsorship pays for this site so that we can continue to use it for free!

The Sniffer has spent years in it's endeavor to create and protect a quality site for all fishermen of multiple species. Thank you for your understanding and patronage to and for this site.
