So i recieved an old magnaglas six foot rod with cancore reel. I need help cleaning the rings of the rod because they have rust on them. Is there a good way to clean them with out scratching the rings and fraying the line i plan to run threw them?

You got a picture of how bad it is...? We talking pitted rust...? First 2 things that came to mind is fine steel wool... or wd-40 and a rag and some ear swabs if its not to bad...

It's pretty tough rust. I've put oil on it and cleaned the two big bottom rings but the rest going to the top are hard to clean because of how small they are. I'm using steel wool, I thought about using grit paper but didn't want to be too harsh on the rings.

You might also try Naval Jelly. You can get that at Home Depot.
